The "No Cocky Bastards" Rule...

...is apparently no longer in effect.

My take: That may have been a Fox policy rather than a Panthers policy. And truthfully, a coach like Ron Rivera is better suited to handling that type of personality than a coach like John Fox.

Don't take that to mean we're okay with signing thugs and criminals though. Lowlifes still need not apply. However, if your biggest problem is just a little "excess personality", then I think you now have a better chance of being a Panther than you might have before.

So is that a good thing or a bad thing?

You tell me.

I think anybody that comes from Ditka/Ryan Bears is going to be able to deal with some outlandish personalities. I think that's a small asset for the Panthers franchise, because avoiding players who might rock the boat is sacrificing potential talent for peace.

nothing wrong w/ players that got some attitude. Need it....need more than what Carolina has had imo recently.

only prob, is there aren't a lot of guys to balance the equation right now (at least offenisvely). Steve Smith and Shockey need more than Rivera and an offensive lineman telling them to pound sand.

    • Having issues with a player coming back from an injury not playing back to back games is certainly an interesting stance…
    • Maybe part of the Hornets summer league training is making sure a guy has enough outfits to sit out 50-70% of a season.
    • Generally agree, but this is an outlier not a norm, a majority of the pundits still put us as the dregs of the NFL.  It feels more like 2003 or 2015 preseason (When we were viewed as a meh..might be alright, prlly will suck predictions) than it does 2004 or 2016  (where the media was scraping the zipper so erect thinking we were DEFINITELY playoff and possibly superbowl bound again).  That said, just generally speaking, Im getting a good vibe from this team, they seem to be coming together, the leadership it looking stronger and it seems like theres some direction, but all of that is worthless if we dont get on field results.
