There were more to our problems than Clausen last year

How many of these QB's that started their first year have 2 pro bowl running backs, a pro bowl wide reciever, and a really good OL to play with??

Plus Clausen wasn't just bad, he was completely inept. i hope he has a great year this year and I am positive he will be much improved. I just wonder what his ceiling is and how close he is to reaching it.

but but but....Matt Moore had a couple bad quarters so that means Jimmy was doomed and everyone around him was garbage:rolleye:

Even if Clausen shows MUCH improvement that still puts us at 4-12. He was that bad.

He would have to perform an all time great 360 degree turnaround for us to even think about being > .500

So if he improves a lot we win 4 games... if he makes no progress we win 8? I like it!

Or maybe you were hoping for him to channel the patented David Carr Spinorama.

Yeah, I'm being Captain Obvious. But even so, watch the boards erupt in dissatisfaction when Clausen gets the nod. :)

I think it would depend on the circumstances. If we drafted Newton and then picked up McNabb or Palmer, I think people would be shocked if we went with Clausen. You would have to think that the front office was pulling the strings. Or that Clausen sure didn't look like he did last year. But before that happens, if the CBA is done, we will have camp and get a chance to see who is doing well in the new offense. If it is a fair competition and Clausen emerges the favorite, then he deserves to be named the starter. Next he has to earn it with his play. I wonder who we get to replace Smitty who would have a heart attack.

As long as the dissatisfaction is from the message board and not the locker room, I would be fine. That really is the biggest battle.

On a related note, I'm not so sure Smitty "HATES" Jimmy as much as a lot of people seem to assume. Sure he yelled at him and ragged on him a couple times, but that's just Smitty being passionate about the game. It didn't really seem personal, even his little comment when Jimmy apologized to the defense and his comment about "it ain't Notre Dame anymore". Just seemed like Smitty fired up and pissed off about losing. Seems to me Smitty was just getting on the rook that was fuging up. I bet if Jimmy starts playing better, Smitty will be just fine with him.

Seems to me a lot of people like to try to act like they know exactly what Smitty thinks and feels when in reality he seems like a pretty unique character and we're all better off just taking what he says at face value and not trying to read between the lines (i.e. "Smitty wants a trade!!!")

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
