Panthers tender Williams, Moore, Johnson and more...

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has already been posted somewhere but I looked a couple of pages back and could not find it, so I apologize if it is a duplicate.

The Carolina Panthers tendered contracts to running back DeAngelo Williams and quarterback Matt Moore, among 12 others, on Wednesday.

The moves, made on the eve of the NFL's expiring labor agreement, would allow Carolina to get draft pick compensation if the restricted free agents sign with another club.

Williams had an injury-riddled 2010 campaign and rushed for just 361 yards and a touchdown following consecutive seasons of eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark.

Moore started fives games for Carolina last season and compiled a woeful 55.6 quarterback rating.

Other players offered contracts with the club were linebackers James Anderson, Jordan Senn, wide receiver David Clowney, safety Marcus Hudson, long snapper J.J. Jansen, defensive end Charles Johnson, tight ends Jeff King and Dante Rosario, defensive tackle Derek Landri, kicker Rhys Lloyd, and cornerbacks Richard Marshall and C.J. Wilson.

It will be interesting to see if these stick, but I'm happy to see Williams, Johnson and especially Moore likely back. Suck it down all you haters saying no way would the Panthers be interested in signing him again this year. Chances are pretty good for him to be the starter too.

Not real sure why they brought back Clowney but ok. I like bringing back Matt Moore, but I wonder what his signing means for the QB's. We'll have our original group of Pike, Clausen and Moore. No franchise QB in that group so if we draft a QB who gets cut?

Tagging Williams was a no brainer.

Keep in mind that this really only means they want to take these guys to camp next year. No guarantee they're on the final roster.

It may not even mean that. They are not sure if this is actually going to stick with the CBA issue.

But it does mean these are players the franchise would either like to have back, or don't want to let them go without trading them for something worthwhile.

So for all intents and purposes it means they are some of the "Panthers of 2011"....for now.

I'm happy to see Charley Martin in there too. He really must have left an impression on them last year.
