Union: No 18 game schedule

Glad to hear it. The game is too violent to add more games. The idea to add more "meaningful games' would result in more players with serious injuries in games that were in effect meaningless to the season. In this case, I think the owners wanted to justify premium prices now charged for meaningless preseason games at the risk of player safety and health.

Whether the regular season is 16 or 18 games, I still hate the four-game preseason.

I've heard that one of the major issues is the NFL not even putting the 18 game schedule on the table? Why, because in the previous CBA the players had already given the owners permission to move to a 18 game regular season as long as they reduce the preseason by 2 games.

To the owners, if they want 18 games then it will happen and they will not get permission from the players to do so. The players know this so every offer they are laying on the table includes no 18 game language.

I don't think we are going to see another NFL football game until fall 2012 at the earliest.

let's reduce the season to 8 games since it's so dangerous

let's make it a 22 game seasons since it would make more money

guys don't be stupid, an 18 game season is a strictly FINANCIAL, BUSINESS move. NOTHING more. It is based solely on making more money. That is ALL. It confuses me those who can't see through that, its pretty clear. Unless you personally care that the owners get more money there is no other side.

4 preseason games is good because it refines a product that get sold before it is sold for its full price. less refinement, less meaning, more money. Buisness. 2 more games is a business standpoint, no one should be for it...more football is a stupid excuse and clearly shows a misunderstanding of football and business in general. 18 games would be more and 14 would be less, so what? more football doesn't mean more meaningful football, like the illusion they like you to believe. It means more meaningless football.

16 games has proven to be a challenge already but it's not too hard. why try and disprove this, rather embrace it and acknowledge it as a very efficient schedule.

Now if players all of a sudden stopped getting injured so much and most teams were able to keep almost a full starter set, then maybe that would be OK. It would still be demeaning but not as much. But we are already at a point where in a couple divisions somewhere the top team is the healthy team, that shouldn't be the case to a point.

I thought the retail price of preseason games was the same, but you could buy the tickets for cheap 2nd hand.

No you're right they are the same prices but unless they are PSLs and already sold they are basically free/real cheap for the stadium to sell. I think there are like 3 PSL teams so that is the majoirty of the NFL. I guess my point was I would rather them lower the price for offeason and up the price for regular than bring in two more games at full price and devalue the game. They would still get their greasy money but we get to keep the value of the product.

This is just all my opinion :).

Also obviously maybe in hte future when the population is bigger it should expand. Not now though, we're not even close to the point IMO.

I'm sure you are over doing it a little bro. The main issue of the 18 game idea is now settled and is off the table now. Now the only thing that is remaining is the 9 billion dollar split between both groups. Which I'm sure it will get done sooner then later. Truth is both Groups knows a season without football could hurt their pockets and businesses in the long run. Because if a lockout happens then alot of fans will go away from football and watch another sport that is out there and invest their money into that sport instead of the NFL. I can't say 100% that it might happen. But I'm sure by the end of this week or next week these groups will come to terms on a figure and go with and then both groups will sign and then go back to football business.:skep::boxing_smiley::D;)

yeah but if we made it an 8 game season then it would have even more value and perhaps it would be safer for the players (unless of course they were to suffer an injury during one of the 8 games although somehow this cuts that chance in half or at least gives one the mindset that it's less likely to occur)

with 8 games they could simply charge twice as much for the ticket but the game would have more value and this way they still make money and the players are safe (not really)

my point is 2 more games won't kill anyone and 8 less won't protect anyone. players are just lazy imo. yeah, it's a physical game and it's a dangerous game but that's what they choose to do. playoff teams can play up to 4 more games.

should we do away with the playoffs to make the game more safe?

it's a bunch of bull

I think he was been sarcasm about the 8 game season. LOL That would never happen. Unless this was back in the 1800s or something. :ihih::iamwithstupid::smilielol5::ciappa::idea:
