Here's a "what if"

Mr. Scot

So the Panthers have signed Jeremy Shockey, a guy most of us would never have expected during the Fox era.

Suppose that's not the only "unexpected" move this offseason.

How would you feel if, for example, the Panthers made a move for someone like...Randy Moss?

rather have Plaxico

It wouldnt happen, just because it will have an effect on the youth movement. The reason why we went out after shockey because he can play a great role on the team and they probably felt he will be the most decent TE to pick up, also Chud work with him when he was in Miami. If i see another Reciever coming in i see Vincent Jackson why because he will be a better fit for chud offensive deep threat scheme and he is younger and coming from the chargers were Rivera was there and also chud. I also believe if they bring in another Reciever, Smitty want be there or they have plans for him.

I think Rivera likes players who have a swagger to them both in their play and in their personality.

I don't think its a "what if" more players come to or are drafted by the Panthers that wouldn't have been under Fox, it's a who will those players be. I'd say probably not Moss but crosses guys off based on past criteria isn't going to work any longer.

Given we haven't had a TE who could catch in a decade, the shockey pick up made sense. But honestly Moss wouldn't unless we can get a Qb who can throw the ball. Even then how productive would he still be at this point?

Given it isn't my money though let Richardson bring in as many guys as he wants. Maybe if we get enough of them, we might find someone who can get the job done.

See, that's the thing. If Moss's only sin were that he had a Shockeyesque ego, I could see it. Moss's past has his fair share of things that say "headcase" and/or "thug" though, so I'd have a hard time buying that happening.

But with that said, how many of us saw the Shockey signing coming?

The last guy to coach Moss - former Titans WR coach Fred Graves - is now on the Panthers staff. Suppose for a moment that he went to Ron Rivera and said "yeah, the kid's got issues, but I think I could make him productive again". Seeing as there's a pretty good chance the Titans just let him walk this offseason and most of the league thinks he's washed out, so he might be obtainable for cheaper than people think.

Would I do it? Lord no :nonod:

Do I believe it'll happen? Not really.

Is it conceivable though?

Yeah, it actually is. And if it did, I wonder how we'd all react.

    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
    • Woukd be a great addition You know the issues from my prespective, 2 things the Panthers must do 1. Edge or pass rushers or 2 oline or 3 oline or as Andy Reid says, when in doubt, draft a lineman it is time   That oline is troubling plus a small person at QB  they   1. Can do a lot better than mayes at center, 2. and lewis has had injuries all season. 3. Moton should not have  been resigned long term, 4. corbett is a shadow and will probably be released  5 and Christianson coming off Achilles   6 and the kicker, would be Ickey’s contract if they decide to keep him INMO rookie and contracts will be needed to offset all that
