Schefter: Players won't negotiate

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

When I heard the NFL had offered a 'meet you halfway' deal on revenue sharing, I really thought the deal would get done.

When the players walked away without so much as a counter offer, my heart sunk :(

I said this in the other thread but Smith said something like "meet us half way". And by that he means...meet us half way to everything we want, not let's both meet in the middle. Both parties are at fault here, but Smith really is going to let this rot. His agenda is very unhealthy.

The players do not think they can lose. They may be right. Time will tell.

I think they may also have assumed this would go through Doty, but it looks like that's not happnin'.

I think they most definitely can lose, but I'm not predicting anything at this point.

FYI: Florio ripped "Schefter's source" a new one over on PFT.

Citing a players union source, Adam Schefter says the players see "zero chance" of any negotiations before April 6th, even if the league came to them with a new offer.

T'would seem they really are betting everything on winning in the courts.

So what happens if they lose?

They won't lose...

"If either Judge Nelson or Judge Doty were to order mediation, a deal most likely would be done by April 6. If both were to do it simultaneously, the chances of a deal would be even greater."

Insight on Nelson:

"The fact that Judge Nelson was nominated by President Obama and appointed by a Congress controlled by Democrats is another reason for the players to not be complaining."

It's in the bag...for the players...

That may indeed be what the players believe.

I'm not entirely sold on that train of thought.

"Bottom line? The position taken by Schefter’s source proves that the source has no interest in trying to work out a fair and reasonable deal, and whoever the source was should be removed from any position of influence over the players’ interests. It remains in the best interests of the players and the league to try to work out an objectively fair deal."

This mediation would be a totally different beast than what has taken place over the past couple weeks. Court ordered mediation would be overseen by counselor who would report directly to judge in the case. Any sign that one side is not negotiating in good faith would weigh heavily in the judges eyes, should they not come to an agreement.

If either Doty or Nelson orders mediation, IMO a deal will get done quickly that is "fair" to both sides. Neither side will be playing hardball for fear of losing the case in court.

GOOD!

I hope the players stick it to the Owners who were itching for a lockout anyway!

I've had enough of Jerry Richardson stealing from us season ticket buyers.

Tell Jerry to suit up, cause I ain't buyin any tickets for scrubs and arena league players like he put on the field last year.

I am sure that Jerry coudl give a flying fug if you renew your tix. He will just resell your PSL and make a bigger profit.

It isn't a hatred of the players but a hatred of their position. I have complained about my ticket price doubling over the past ten years, blaming ownership. However, after looking at the data andseeing player's salaries double over the same, my attitude has changed.

Do you think if players cut their salaries in half over even 75% that would result in a lowering of your ticket price?
