Lomas Brown:D+ for 2010 Draft Class...Ouch!

Was just watching the Draft preview for 2011 featuring our Carolina Panthers with the #1 Overall selection. When asked to judge our 2010 draft clas he gave us a grade of D+...At first I was kinda annoyed, then I thought about it without fan biased and I thought he may have a point.

Even though I feel he touched on some legit factors, I don't think our draft class was as bad as he tried to represent it. I'd give us a B to a B-.

Outside of Clausen (2nd) who was thrust into a non-productive offense all around, inexperienced receivers, an extreme lack of a running game early on, poor protection, and predictable play-calling.

We had solid rookie campaigns from Gettis (6th), LaFell came on late (3rd), Hardy (6th), as well as our project/special teamers McClain, Edwards, and Norwood. Given the fact we lacked a 1st which could've give us an even higher grade I think we did well considering what we had to work with.

Thoughts....?

I can't really disagree. Taking the homer goggles off and speaking objectively if they were to judge the rookies based off performance(remember, they're not Panther fans and they likely didn't see every play like we did) it's not too great. Draft class grades don't really matter until about three seasons in, so you gotta take what anyone says with a grain of salt.

If LaFell, Gettis, and Hardy live up to expectations then that grade will go up significantly. As it stands now though, potential is pretty much all we can say.

Potential is all you can judge a draft class off for the first three years. Horrible post and horrible comment by whoever the fug Lomas Brown is.

This is what happens when people don't read...^

I really think in three years Gettis and Hardy will be the top two picks from our 2010 class for us. LaFell will be in the mix too, I'm still on the fence with Armanti as he just never played so I honestly can't form an opinion yet. With McClain I see him as our next Captain Munnerlyn under-sized to play outside but could be a really good/solid nickel/dime back.

With Norwood, he's just such a tweener I'm not sure with him either. Though I believe we'll see a big plus from our front seven given our staff changes at the top (Ron Ron), and defensively so I'm cautiously optimistic.

As far as Jimmy is concerned, with a more QB friendly, and attacking offense geared to put pressure on the defense and not on our teams quarterback by ALWAYS being in 3rd and longs because we ALWAYS ran on 1st and second down. I think Shockey's safety valve presence in the middle and the gained experience for LaFell and Gettis to go along with Smith and the running game, I think "IF" we don't go QB he could show us a bit more of what he's really got.

Lomas Brown was a longtime offensive lineman who used to block for Barry Sanders. Since his retirement, he's become a commentator, and from what I've seen, generally a good one.

I'd disagree with him in that I don't think we know how good or bad last year's draft class was until we see them for a few years coached by someone other than a lame duck John Fox.

I'll hold my judgement to see what Armanti and JImmy look like when they actually are being coached.

before Clausen entered the picture, John Fox did nothing but win with scrub QBs. The guy flat out knows how to win w/ QB being a weaker spot on a team.

Clausen just sucked so bad a coach who consistantly won w/ crap couldn't get squat done w/ Clausen. Lame duck or not, Fox was the same coach playing/coaching just like he always did. We saw it before, Fox couldn't do squat w/ a check down do nothing QB like David Carr.....

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
