The Two Kicker Conundrum

The silliness of it all is that they made rule changes a few years ago for the specific purpose of reducing the number of touchbacks in order to make the game more exciting.

Now we're trying to take it in the opposite direction, and all because everybody's scared that someone might get hurt playing football

When you take on the lifestyle, you know the risk. Do construction workers on high rises that have more risk than football players get paid anywhere near the same? Absolutely not. You assume the risk when your parents decide to let you play as kids all the way up through the NFL.

Ron Rivera has made it pretty clear that he doesn't like the "tight end by committee" model.

Knowing that, it's not much of a stretch to believe that having two kickers isn't likely to be high on his list of "favorite things" either.

They've tendered Lloyd, but that only guarantees him an invite to camp. It'd be no great shock to see the team draft or sign a "do it all" guy at kicker like they did at TE.

who punts than?

Alex Henery

He is mainly being touted as a PK prospect, but he has handled punting for them as well his entire career. He is not the best Punter coming out of college this year, but he can handle kickoffs and had a better punting average than Baker last year.

Let him handle punting and KOs, while learning the nuances of FGs from one the best kickers of all time. When Kasay is ready to retire, move Henery to PK and find another punter.

If we're going to go with 2 kickers, Kasay stays and Baker leaves. Kasay is still too reliable to cut and puts points on the board. Unless you want to be like many others around the league that have been searching for a reliable kicker for years.

Baker is a dang good punter and will be 33 this year

Kasay is a great fg kicker that will be 42 this year.

If you get rid of Baker this year to keep Kasay, you could easily be in a position where you are forced to find a new kicker the following year. Kasay is just flat out getting old. Isn't his contract up after this season?
