Blaine Gabberts Mega thread

Sorry if this was posted, Mayock weighs in:

"He's my No. 1 quarterback, and to me he's the one quarterback in the draft who, if you've got to bang the table for a franchise quarterback, he's the guy,'' NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said after Gabbert's workout. "The kid confirmed everything you want to see in a franchise quarterback. I thought he did as good as he could have. His footwork was real clean. His arm was real accurate, and his arm strength was great.''

This reminds me of the Matt Ryan situation, Gabbert almost has to be the pick if we want to turn the franchise around. Unless you trade down.

Bullshit. Those BC teams SUCKED. Without Ryan, they would've been awful teams. He WAS that team. I hated when the Falcons drafted Ryan because I knew they'd just acquired a damn good QB.

The media hype storm has emerged just as I thought it would. he did good but honestly the media types telegraphed this the last 5 days. And had people declaring win 5 throws into his day.

I thought he did well but from what i saw it wasn't the greatest display that has ever been seen. He was 44-49 and at least 3 of him "completions" were bad throws. I am not buying into It just yet. i think people are trying to generate buzz on this guy because they had him so highly rated.

I hate saying that but they act like he torched the stadium and from what I saw that is false.

The NFL scouts that have been quoted have not been nearly as enthusiastic as some of these media guys.

But I really don't want to take away from the kid. He did a really good job. :)

If they draft Gabbert I'll never buy his jersey cuz his last name makes me cringe :D

That's fine, I have a better idea for marketing Blaine Gabbert if we draft him...

Official Blaine Gabbert Wigs

That being said, I think we'd be better off drafting someone at another position and winning games. But hey, wigs are okay too.

You're right, I think Mayock and Brandt have been the most enthusiastic about it, but they're in the media. Check the SI article I posted earlier to see some responses by two offensive coordinators and Banks' informal poll. It seems most of the actual team personnel WERE impressed, though how impressed varied from "good" to "amazing." Which seems to be about the level of media variance too, albeit a bit more on the "HE IS SOOOOO AWESOME" level.

I'd say that he had a good day. Maybe he wasn't Cam Newton, but at least he has the hair on his side. ;)

No doubt the kid get an A++ on his hair. He had a good day no doubt. I don't mind drafting him. I really trust our guys to make a good decision, even if they pass on QB.

    • Roger all that. Do you think BY avoided any sacks last game? This oline is not what you're touting them to be. They are much better then 2023! Much much much better than 2023. But come on now, you'd expect this expensive oline (most are run blocking specialist) to at least dominate in the run game every game.  And... I keep telling you our WRs and TEs are not that good yet. I mean last Sunday was a prime example. Our receiving targets never make plays like those. Never. And this is from one of the worst teams in the league. Shough could have easily had 3 INTs if not for his receivers making plays on the ball. Our guys just don't do that. XL almost allowed an INT backing up out of bounds instead of coming to the ball. And everyone would have blamed that on BY. That's why he doesn't throw to that dude. I can't recall a game except maybe the second Falcons game - maybe, where I thought our receivers could possibly be better than the other team's. I think TMac and Coker have a lot of potential. But they're aren't consistent. But they're young and WILL improve. I'm confident of that.  I don't agree that BY was drafted to only stand in the pocket. He has always been best off schedule - for better or worse.
    • Do you think you will get a direct answer?  Icky giving up 5 pressures (playing hurt in his defense) by himself and Bryce only getting sacked once tells you he played well in the pocket.  He extended plays and converted some tough downs.
    • I've been very apprehensive about potentially firing yet another head coach. But Canales needs to focus on being a head coach first and foremost and begin handing off some responsibilities like playcalling duties and begin overseeing the entire team or we need to assess all possible ideal HC candidates in the offseason.
