Smith had a rookie QB throwing side armed floaters last season and now he's done? He had 1000 yards with a beat down Delhomme in 2009. He is only 31. He has atleast 2-4 more 1000 yard seasons in him.

i agree i would hate to see steve smith leave:(:(

I don't want him going to a NFC South team, or a team we play often. It was bad enough when we played the Bears and Peppers posed after a pick at BOA while our Panthers were being raped. One fan actually said "the only way this could be worse is if a meteorite hit BOA." Well Smith is that meteorite if he goes to our competition in the south. Here's hoping he heads out west, maybe back to Cali.

If Smith has an incentive-laden contract, then he will certainly demand and get a trade. He's losing major money by not producing yards and TDs.

Even Boldin at his best only fetched a 2nd round pick. Moss when he was in a slump was traded for a 4th. I know a lot of people here think Smitty's an elite WR, but the fact of the matter is that his stats just haven't matched up to that in the last 2 years. The best move is simply to keep him. That's how we'll get the most value out of him.

I don't think Boldin got a 2nd...but I forget what it was. If he did Smitty should be able to get a 2nd, Smitty >>>>> Boldin. Smitty's only a year or two older and he's got more talent and drive in his little finger than Boldin. And Smitty definitely is not more broken down than Boldin....

But the point is moot in my opinion, I won't believe this baseless speculative "trade Smitty" talk until Rivera, Hurney, JR or Smitty himself say he wants out or might be traded. Or his grandma is in the video with two forms of ID.

Boldin got a 3rd, but he was also younger than Smith with a more recent history of Pro Bowl play. Smith hasn't had a real productive season since '08. Even if that's almost entirely due to QB play, it's still going to hurt his trade value.

I'd be happy if we could get a 3rd for him, but it's more realistic that we get a 4th. Perhaps a conditional 3rd based on his performance would be a good idea.

Anything less than 3 first round picks would not be a good idea.

If the Panthers stay young at QB.....Panthers should get rid of him for whatever they can get. Keeping on the team and him being a destructive force and not aiding in the growth of the offense does no one any good.

You can easily argue a lesser caliber vet WR would have done more good for this team than he did last season. Steve Smith has no place on a young offense at this point. Unless a vet QB is going to start this season then dump him for picks.

We will get at least a second for steve..I know u guys love the guy and he is a great player.But maybe he soes want to go to a team thats better then the panthers then he might will be able to get a shot at a superBowl. Lets just be real 4 a second it will bw a whilw before we ever be able to get back. We gotta have a QB to get us there. The panthers are showing respect to the guy. If we get Lucky maybe a pretty good team already just need a WR to stretch the field a little may try to throw a first to get him. I mean You never know.

      I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.

      While I don't believe its a must win, (we have been better on the road this post season) it is definitely A NEED TO WIN the longer this series goes the more pronounced the Canes advantage on rest and health will be! If we hold serve at home in games 1 and 2 guaranteeing a 6 game minimum series for them if we lose the road games..... by the game 4 and 5 I expect them to be beat they have played A LOT OF HOCKEY the last three years, they have MINIMAL rest off a more physical than one might have expected series vs the leafs.... you know Tampa took their pound of flesh in round 1 from them. Combine all that with the fact that even though this year's canes squad isn't as talented as last years this IS a better squad than the one they swept last time that had McKenzie Mckeathern on line 1 Turbo with a broken hand a banged uo and eventually concussed Slavin (and even though it was a sweep 6 OTS and 4 1 goal losses is hardly dominant)  This year Bob hasn't been superman (hes probably gonna still have a great save percentage agiast us just a side effect of our style) Thatchuk is maybe 50% (3 game winners agiast us) their defense no longer has Gudas and several other downgrades.  While the Canes have a healthy and performing Svechnikov along with other big guys to counteract florida like Carrier, Jankowski, Robinson.   I by know means think it will happen but I either see this as a low scoring dog fight or a series were the canes surprise and end up dominating.
