Question for those who don't wanna draft a QB

First off: I'm open to hearing what you say and not trying to start some silly argument...

Are you banking on drafting a Brantley, Barkley, or Pryor type over the next 2 years and picking up a vet this year like Volek or Bulger?

I'm asking this because when you actually put the names down on who we could hold out for, I still prefer taking Gabbert. So basically: What QB (in future drafts) are you looking at beyond this year if you don't want to draft one now?

Cheers.

We need to pick up a vet regardless of what we do in the draft this year and let him compete for the starting job.

Beyond Luck, the landscape for QB prospects in the next few years might look bleak right now but that can change quickly... Luck came out of nowhere, so it stands to reason that another guy we've never even heard of will be the "hottest prospect in the past decade" next year or the following year.

I think they are also the one's who want to see Clausen develop.. maybe they aren't looking at drafting a QB next year or the year after, either.

Just moving forward with bringing in a Vet and waiting to see if Clausen develops is a much greater risk than drafting Cam or Gabbert. In my opinion.

(Veteran + Clausen + Pike/Moore/or ???) is a GREATER risk than (Veteran + Clausen + Cam or Gabbert).

Banking on better options in the future yes, just because there are guys available doesn't mean we have to take one. Sign a vet in FA and let the current guys battle it out in camp. When there are QB's worth the pick take them then, for now fix other problems.

This makes sense and its likely what Rivera & Hurney could be thinking imo. It would also lead me to believe we're gonna end up with Dareus. However, I'm getting a weird vibe that our staff thinks Gabbert is their guy.

The one guy I would actually be patient for other than Luck is Barkley. Pryor and some of the rest don't really float my boat.

And additionally, all this talk has me pretty much convinced, which took some time, that we either pick a QB in the first or not at all.

I have to say the reason i don't want a QB in the draft is because i am a oldschool type of fan. I like teams that draft and build the trenches. I love a nasty mean defense. I love a rushing attack more than the pass. I know the league is changing and soon all the teams will basically be playing arena football but i would love to see us continue to be the old guard. We went overwhelmingly offense last year in the draft and think we need to balance that out with defense, defense, defense.

Lets put it this way my ideal draft would be Patrick Peterson, Marvin Austin, Jarvis Jenkins, and John Moffit. That said i am slowly coming around to the fact that with a rookie salary cap a new QB is imminent. Of the two i like Cam.

Last year we drafted 3 WR and 2 QB. The last thing this teams needs right now is to get any younger in the passing game. Unless you just want to tank this year to and hope Luck comes out next year, he will just be a JR not a senior.

This has become a league for elite QB's... not average QB's. We need to draft a QB until we find "the one." Jimmy MIGHT be good in the future, but we should still look for a QB until we are sure. If we wait another year or two before we decide he is a bust to draft, then we have to wait another year or two for whomever we choose to develop... 5 years is way to long to wait when we could take a chance this year at #1.

I do not want to consistently find "stop gap" serviceable veteran QB's that keep us competitive. We deserve an elite talent and are almost forced to find one with the QB depth in the NFC South right now... the most likely way to find him is taking a chance on a QB #1 overall.

You are right, we may not need to get younger with our passing game, but we absolutely need to get better. With no free agency, the draft is the only way to do that right now.

    • Looking like it might be game 7 for Pitt and Phi. Philly is spent. I like more rest for the canes
    • Moton is the man through and through. 2 things I'll always give Gettleman credit for, 1 is drafting Moton, the other is building a SB contending roster and blowing it up in one off-season
    • Kurb is still alive and well.  I’m still friends with him on all of the social media.  He truly is a great man!  That’s my bro!  He always looked out for me since the early days of the huddle.  It definitely makes me sad that he just quit posting here, but that’s life.  He still shares his takes on social media and X, but a lot of the huddle vets just grew tired of this format and the environment, I guess?  It’s a lot of guys that were valuable contributors here that just stopped posting but are still alive and passionate Panthers fans.  Blindsite used to post huge write-ups and was a well-respected poster and then just disappeared.  We had one of these type threads several years ago and he checked back in and explained he just lost the motivation to stay active here.  It was amazing hearing from him again…   I signed up in 04 after coming over from the Charlotte.com boards and been here ever since.  (For those that don’t know - this is Proudiddy - had to change the name very recently due to ‘ol tootsie roll penis and the bad press 😂).  I’m forever thankful for all of you, even those who I haven’t had the greatest history with, I still appreciate yall.  Many have come and gone, both figuratively and literally, and that has put a lot into perspective over the years.  I went from a young, newly married, wide-eyed twenty year-old guy with a baby on the way, to a now forty-two year-old guy, recently divorced and newly re-married guy with my oldest baby now an adult and 5 more kids since.  And what ride it has been!  You guys have been a much bigger part of my life than I really care to acknowledge.😂
