Should we look at Locker?

Jake Locker misfires just twice at Washington Pro Day

Our old friend Tony Softli thinks Locker has made himself into a top ten pick.

I don't believe for a minute that the Panthers will start considering Locker inthe equation this late in the process given that they've ignored him up till now...

...but stranger things have happened :sosp:

The question is, in your opinion, should they?

My only thing is the kid was the #1 rated QB going into this season, many had him a close 2nd to Bradford last year, so what happened?

To me he is a kid if you just sit on the bench a year and work his ass off on becoming an NFL QB, working footwork etc then he has a damn good shot at being successful in the NFL

Absolutely! I think he gets foolishly overlooked and he brings a charisma that reminds me some of Delhomme.

I would not however, want him as the #1 overall pick or our only 1st round pick.

I would drool if we traded appropriately to have Locker (in the second or first) and a defensive stud such as Dareus, Peterson, or that Corey guy from Illinois.

I would also take Locker or Mallet over Gabbert or Newton ANY day. I fear Gabbert and Newton have BUST written all over them.

He's the same athlete that Cam is and a better passer.

I don't want any QBs (unless Kaepernick in the 5th) but I've had Gabbert, Locker, then Mallett/Newton as tied for 3rd and 4th.

It's just not a good year for us to take any of these QBs

What's wrong with Ponder or Dalton? You don't think either one of those guys could develop into something good?

I think I share your opinion that there isn't a QB in this draft who would be ready to start as a rookie. At least, that's my opinion...

Well I figured those two QBs would be gone before the 5th round (I do think Colin is gone by then too) but I don't see a point wasting a 1st, 2nd (if we get one), 3rd, or 4th on a QB this year.

I would taken Kaepernick in the 5th because I feel he's got a lot of upside and in the fifth round, there isn't that much of an investment so if he doesn't work out it's not biggie. In rounds, 1,2 (if we get one),3, and 4 I want to get players that can contribute.

I feel Dalton and Ponder would need some work and I don't think their ceilings are that high.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
