Warren Moon sees racial bias regarding Cam Newton

He does have a point that has been brought up numerous times! And its the fact that minority QBs intelligence being questioned, especially at the QB position. I'm not saying he's right or wrong about every writer out there, but I see a lot of minorities falls under the "not smart" label every single draft, it never fails. But hey this doesn't stop me from having a great life, and Cam has been through far worse so I'm sure he will succeed either way.

well yeah, because neither of them stole a laptop(allegedly), got caught cheating, or had to transfer schools...

you have to understand that there are legitimate reasons why people question Cam's intelligence/character don't you?

what did Freeman do to make him wonder?

Well then, you should have an easy time with the race quiz too :D

dude... he didn't wonder about anything. he said:

"Personally, I would have to know more about Josh Freeman the person (character, work ethic, leadership) to give a more accurate grade. Freeman is a classic example of a Boom or Bust prospect."

he isn't wondering about his character or his work ethic, he is saying he doesn't know enough about those things to form an opinion on them...

come on now... really?

if anything he is wondering because he just doesn't know enough about the kid.

fyi, here's what ESPN had to say about Jimmy Clausen and leadership issues:

Displayed toughness to play through painful turf-toe injury on his plant foot in 2009. Multiple scouts site concerns regarding his maturity level, sense of 'entitlement' and general leadership skills in the NFL. Is he ready to handle the pressures of being a starting quarterback in the NFL? Can he handle failing if thrown into fire as a rookie?

Teeray, I found your thing about Josh Freeman:

No off-the-field issues. Showed a lot of character carrying his team and battling through some tough seasons at KSU. But scouts will work long and hard trying to uncover his true leadership skill and mental capacity prior to draft weekend, as there are questions regarding both.

Now, if it was consistent among black QBs, especially those who are more athletic, what do you think they would say about Pat White?

Displays good football intelligence and has matured into a confident, more vocal leader.

I came across a reference to Josh Freeman's teammates whispering about leadership issues. No issues with intelligence that I could find outside of that single line on the ESPN site.

Pat white faced similar questions about his ability to learn an NFL offense and read defenses but you have to consider the offense he came from. Can't really claim racial bias on him bc of his college offense it would be a natural concern.

BTW I know I will lose some credibility on QBs for divulging this but I loved Pat White. Don't get me wrong he was drafted WAY to high but I thought he was intriguing if you could get him in the third or fourh.

But I digress.

I thought you were saying people questioned Freeman's personal intelligence... I think there is a difference between that and transition to the NFL. Gabbert faces questions about his ability to transition too, tho a lot of them have been quieted due to his recent PR campaign with the chalk board stuff... The reason people questioned Freeman's ability to read a defense is because he really struggled with it at times in college. Or at least, it seemed that way in the games I watched of him. But that's how it is sometimes in college... doesn't mean he couldn't do it in the NFL.

i don't like black qbs because most of them aren't any good. it's not racism it's a pattern. i also didn't like when the bobcats drafted Adam Morrison due to him being a nonathletic white guy with diabetes.

doesn't mean there aren't any good black qbs or good white basketball players, but it's like taking a short qb. you might get dru brees but you might get the normal short qb who can't get the ball over the line.

Please explain to me why the bolded statement above isn't racist. I've got news for you my friend, most white QB's aren't any good either.

There are empirical reasons why short guys have problems at the QB position. Surely you can understand the difference between excluding someone because they are black, and excluding someone because they are short.

Well.... that is fair but I tend to believe that when people say a person will struggle learning an NFL offense or read NFL defenses I look at it as code for questioning someone's intelligence. Especially if you already come from a pro style like Freeman did.

Translation to learning the NFL is an obstacle for any QB and is a challenge for any QB.

I agree blacks QBs do get judged differently than white QBs. However, I have seen almost all spread QBs questioned on whether they can transition to pro style. It's not like all the questions about Cam are unique to him.

You're not one of the folks it's primarily geared to, but I'd love to see you take the racism quiz (just as a "control" type thing).

Oh, some extreme haters would say he's undraftable and has no business in the NFL.

FWIW, Warren Moon is spot ON the money. He's lived through the worst of how the establishment treats black QBs, and I'd say is probably the most qualified person on the planet to be able to see racism against QBs.

Go Warren!

Well by all means, take the quiz then. Let's see how well you can pick out who this raging racist is talking about (if you've got the guts)
