it's hard to explain, but before I transcribed it I felt like we were going to take a QB for sure. I don't know why. It was something about the way he spoke.

after I did transcribe most of it though I just wasn't sure anymore.

i think that's when you take into account the questions he's being asked. in a way, when he's asked a question he likes to wallow in the limits of the posed question itself, and not volunteer any perspective beyond what is absolutely necessary to answer the question. he's very diplomatic in that way. i think this pragmatic "60% through the process" thing is a really handy thing that allows Hurney to avoid tipping his hand leading up to the draft.

How did he slip up? I didnt pick up on that

I would have to go back and listen to it to get it exactly right, but when the host asked him if Mallet was being considered at 1, his first comment was "no", then went on to say they had 30 visits and all candidates weren't being looked at for a particular slot.

As the discussion went on, he tried to backtrack a bit.

I had the same impression. I believe he either really has a QB as number 1 on his board, or he is trying his best to sell other teams on that to try to drum up trade interest.

The host kind of led him to that discussion, but he had plenty of opportunities to talk about other candidates and he barely mentioned them.

I felt the exact same way MAV.

I still like our chances of getting a DT especially if we can trade down a few spots. I'm hoping Buffalo will make an offer. I just don't see that many people honestly enamoured with Gabbert. Those who are just seem more gun-shy of Newton. Come on BILLS!!!!

only reason buffalo would trade up with us is if someone worked out a trade with denver before the draft and announced it, which isn't going to happen.

Doesn't actually have to happen. Someone could leak word that it's going to happen, even if it isn't.

There's a fair number of "dirty tricks" like that played on draft day.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
