This year's crop of quarterbacks...

Mr. Scot

Whisenhunt isn't the GM, but he's a funny case. He's talking down the current crop available at a time when his team badly needs one.

Best guess on that is that he doesn't think either of the top two will fall to them, he isn't interested in the others, and maybe he wants to prepare the fanbase for the possibility that they might not go QB at number five.

You can likely expect that if that happens, we'll be able to hear the collective screaming all the way over here on the East Coast.

HOF head coach Marv Levy once said 'As soon as you start listening to the fans, you will soon be sitting next to them' or something to that effect.

Trade down would be my choice...but you have to have a partner.

That's what really sucks about this. If the general perception is that these guys aren't that good, why should anybody trade up? :(

For that to happen, you have to hope somebody believes in at least one of them.

when nobody wants to trade up what do you do then???

I know for fact the phone will be ringing for the #1 pick. There is always a sucker out there that will think X player is THE player for their franchise.

Now will we get what we would have in previous years? I doubt it, but it would still be a damn good deal and we should take it.

Exactly sir and I do believe there are a couple teams out there that have fallen in love and will want to trade up. Hey look at Al davis and his dumb ass picks. PT Barnum said there is a sucker born every minute and some GM's are suckers.

if we can't trade I think the answer is pretty easy. Peterson or Dareus. I would just say Peterson but DT need is big. I would say Green but don't need as bad. No need to risk the franchise on a QB in the first this year. We need a vet regardless of who we chose.

Why does a GM for a team that doesn't need a quarterback need to engage in gamesmanship?

I'll grant there's plenty of it going on these days, and the vast majority of things said should be taken with a grain of salt, but let's say you asked Thomas Dimitroff for an evaluation of this year's QB crop and then turned around and asked Marty Hurney for the same? Which of the two would be more likely to be onjective?

A GM that doesn't need a QB has done literally zero homework on the QBs so his opinions are irrelevant on this QB class.

I don't think so. They don't have enough time to evaluate everybody. I'm sure they evaluate some late round talent but I seriously doubt a GM is doing too much work on Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert if they aren't in need of a QB. If they are they should be fired for wasting resources.

You have to evaluate every player as much as possible just to build you draft board. That is why there is a team of scouts, the director of scouting, coaches, and gm all get involved.

Yyou have to have a complete draft board cause you never know what will happen. Kalil, conner are just two picks that prove the process.

If you are a GM that doesn't need a QB, have some balls and let the reporter attribute the quote to you by name.

Not talking about this specific case, but I sometimes wonder if some of these "decision maker" quotes are made up. New York Times reporters have lied, so it wouldn't surprise me if there is some of that going on in sports reporting.
