Who will be the better WR? David Gettis vs. Brandon LaFell

Yeah I always thought that was one of the FO's bigger mistakes in recent memory. We shouldn't have let Carter get away. He had a pretty good year, goes off to the Raiders and destroys his knees again. We could have used his deep threat ability in 08, 09.

No I'm actually serious. Carter would have been better than the scrub compliments of the past 2-3 years.

Not sure how I feel about that. Carter sucked bad.....had hands of stone, even if he got open the ball just bounced off his gloves....

Gettis and I'm not sure it's even close. LaFell's hands are still too inconsistent and it seems like Gettis has another gear that LaFell just doesn't possess....

You are correct. Gettis should and will be above LaFell on the depth chart for as long as they are both here. Gettis is bigger, faster, and runs better routes than LaFell.

Plus LaFell was drafted here mainly because he fit the mold Fox wanted. That mold is now gone and his hands are too shakey to be counted on.

If we go Green, I see him as the 5th option, if not I see him as the 4th with limited playing time.

Depending on Armanti's progression as a WR, LaFell could see limited time because Armanti seems to fit better in the middle of the field.

They're different guys. LaFell runs better routes, blocks better, and gets better short separation. He's also more of a playmaker, but has more drops. Gettis is taller and has better straight-line speed. I think he looked more consistent.

So, if LaFell improves his concentration he's going to be the better of the two. If Gettis can start being "the guy" when we absolutely need the first down, then he might become the better. Regardless, both looked a lot like legitimate NFL receivers last year, so I don't really care who it is. As long as both deliver on the promise they showed, we're in great shape.

Seriously, this...I agree that they are different players and the LaFell has the opportunity to be good for a long time. Maybe not 89 good, but steady and productive like a Ricky Proehl

LeFell and Gettis looked great at times. LeFell failed to make some easy catches then would make an incredible catch. I also saw glimpses of Smith in LeFell where he would will more out of a play. I think that is playmaking, heart, and love of the game.

Gettis has better hands and found himself behind defenses a few times. Those are great qualities to have. In the long run great route running and hands will keep you in this league for a long time. Great route running, hands, playmaking, heart, and love of the game puts you in the Hall; both can be great and hopefully with be.

I think both are going to be at the very least solid. I like how Gettis seems to be more of a thinking WR while LaFell seems to have better footbal instincts. I'm very happy with the LaFell pick and still patting the team on the back for getting Gettis and Hardy in the 6th.

Gettis could be nasty but he cant catch with his hands yet, or hasnt proved that he can in games consistently. He always chest traps it, which is much easier to do. It also limits his catching range by several feet and makes him a liability if the other team has a corner that can exploit that.

LaFell on the other hand has shown that he can catch and he can run. He's not as fast as Gettis but then again neither are as fast as Michael Bates. The comments about LaFell being dumb are unwarranted. We joke and kid which is fine because he brings it on himself, but the truth is that he's made it to the NFL and you cant be that stupid to accomplish that.

Right now LaFell is the better reciever and is the safer longterm bet to be successful, but Gettis has more potential to be a superstar.

    • Yeah I think he's just talking continuity it's not really an endorsement. Also I would think CarolinaHuddle of all places would understand using "we" for the team you follow. I can't STAND when dorks do the "Oh so you play for them then? Hurr hurr"
    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
