Enough of this recycled Cam talk

New topic! So every year there are normally a few mild surprises (like a Chris Harris being traded, Delhomme being cut after getting paid, Pep walking free, etc.). I assume this year we are instore for at least one mild shock and the fact we have a completely new staff might up the degree of how big one might be this year. What roster move do you think could shock Panther nation this year.

My initial guess was Kasay being cut but that might almost make too much sense if it is all thought out.

I am going with a big shocker! say goodbye to Mr. Thomas Davis.

What say you?

I do not think he will get any love in free agency. I was somewhat impressed with Jason Williams in the short time he was here (Dallas cut him)-he seemed better in the 4-3.

Anderson can play WLB as well, since I think Norwood and possibly Connor will play the SLB (just a hunch). TD will be given a contract offer (one laden with incentives) and if he can go, he has a job, IMO.

I think Kasay could be gone, but then there is the 35 yard line KO rule, one that might make him perfect now.

If there is a shocker it might involve DW. It just doesn't make sense to have more starting-qaulity RBs than you do defensive linemen.

If they are trying to convince Smitty to come back (which they appear to be with some of the coaching hires) then Kasay isn't going anywhere, he and Smitty are BFF's.

We've put tenders on DeAngelo and CJ, but we're not sure if those will be valid in the next CBA so I think we may end up losing one of these guys and I hate to say it but it will probably be DeAngelo.

Rivera mentioned Davis repeatedly in that conference call. I think we keep him.

Anderson could pull a Witherspoon which I would not like. More because of his attitude rather than his talent. I think he could be a great leader and vet presence which we need SOOO bad.

maybe, but again this is suppose to be a surprise and not something you see coming..

He has played in 7 of the last 32 games. Back to back ACL injuries and is talking about wanting to test the market......I mean, Bob Sanders is a freaking beast as well when on the field. Sanders played in 3 of the last 32 and just got sent packing.

Do we really think TD is going to hold up? Or do you move on and find you a LB you think will be more dependable.....TD is a beast but if someone wants to give him some money.....would it be wise for Carolina to out bid?

Anderson was in Fox's dumphouse most of those years, often didnt even get to dress for games. He wasnt regarded very highly amongst many huddlers(some suggested brown would be better at LB), but I am happy he had a chance to prove his worth. I am pretty sure we will try our best to keep him.

My surprise would be getting rid of Smith, although it has been suggested already so may not shock many of us.

Hurney and JR have both publicly said that they intend to re-sign TD to a long-term deal as soon as a new CBA is in place. I think it would take something major for them to reverse course on that, especially since he will come pretty cheap. If I had to guess, it'd either be a Smitty trade, or Baker getting the axe.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
