Remind me why Marty Hurney should be fired.

Hurney is not a good QB talent evaluator, but that doesn not warrant him being terminated. He is excellent at most position's in terms of evaluation.. also known as a cap expert around the league. Hurney has made some mistakes in FA contracts, i.e. Delhomme, but all GM's have a blemish on their resume'. Hurney has been exceptional, which is why he was retained.

anyone bitching about extending Delhomme has no fuging clue what purpose that served and is talking out of their ass..

I know exactly what purpose it served and still would have liked to cut him. Its not like he was good before that epic collapse, as I remember he was always less than average.

this I will agree with, but keep this guy away from our qb prospects. He was also piss poor at evaluating receivers until this last year

cutting him wouldn't have helped.. resigning him was the only way to reduce the cap hit for that year.

I'm not sure how someone can like it or not like it. fact is it reduced the cap room and it's not your money to waste.

sorry, but was jake the man or was steve smith? A lot of his passes look like save me steve smith passes to me. I've never been a jake fan even when he was winning. I always felt like he was 1 pick from throwing the game away. Yes he managed the game well for a few seasons but was never elite. I don't think you could ever depend on jake to go out and throw 3 touchdowns in back to back games.

As far as otah. he is a monster in when it comes to "run blocking". maybe the best run blocking RT in the league. pass blocking is another story. he's average, and he seems to be made of glass. every week you have to go in praying thats not otah rolling around and guess who it is...I think if the panthers had to do the draft over again the laugh at the thought of trading up to get jeff.

Honestly bro? Comparing 2003, 2004,2005,2006, 2007,2008 Jake Delhomme to players like Jimmy Clausen, drew bledsoe, quincy carter, tony chokesalot romo, tim rattay, every tampa bay and new orleans QB in the history of their organizations up until 2006, and countless others qbs, how can you say he was a bad QB? He did his job, and he did it better than over half the QB's to ever play this game.

I'm not talking about salary cap, I'm talking about rebuilding and having a locker room where everyone is on the same page. Most qb's get fired after playing like poo for 3 years

I guess what I'm saying is those 2 things have nothing to do with each other..

Yes they do. They both explain why he should of been cut after that collapse at B of A stadium. And the first tells you if it was up to me he would have been cut earlier than that

"you must spread rep before giving it to bleys again"

Why is this so hard for some people to get. Cut Jake that year, we might have reduced the cap hit a $mil or two. By extending him, we reduced the hit by about $12-3 mil

pertaining strictly to the resigning.. if you cut him that year, the Panthers would have still be very close or above the cap limit. So cutting him would have not been a good choice.

No, we are not.

Why was Delhomme extended? Cap relief.

Who is in charge of managing the Cap? Marty Hurney.

It was his screw ups that put us in cap hell in the first place.

Personally I don't care about what he did 5, 6, or even 7 years ago. I only care about the last 3 or 4, and because he has made bad choices time and time again in that timeframe, we are the worst team in the league.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
