Darin Gantt no longer covering Panthers

Per Twitter...

Got some news I really never wanted to deliver. As of today, I'm no longer covering the Panthers for the Rock Hill Herald.

Darin Gantt

I've been re-assigned to the Winthrop University beat. Publisher Debbie Abels and editor Paul Osmundson were good to let me stay on.

It's not what I would have chosen, but I suppose I'm luckier than many in my business. Thanks to everyone for their support over the years.

Wonder what happened? This probably means more Fowler

Person is newer, but much more global. This is probably about the way he locked on to one perspecitive, his, and rode it into the ground. He has always done it. ASU sports, Armanti Edwards, now Cam. I think his review reflected this. I also wonder if Mr. Richardson, who seemed a little upset with Darrin at the Press conference, didn't influence the decision.

there used to be a time when i really enjoyed gantt's work, but as for now this is hardly a loss...

this is real talk right here... back when he was only working for the herald he was pretty good but since he had been working for with the observer he has been kinda crappy

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
