Deangelo Williams 2008 biggest pro bowl snub ever?

I don't mean to be a homer or elevate the pro bowl to something bigger than it is, but...COME ON. I'm now going to just count off some numbers of players who have accomplished something with increasing levels of difficulty. This is going to be some stats analysis but i think it will be fun and entertaining. Just read the bold at the end if you don't want to read all of it.

As a starting pool lets just say it's around 4 RBs x 30(ish) teams x 16 games x 34 years = 65,280 running backs.

How many RBs have played 16 games in a season? Too many to count.

Easy enough. You are activated for 16 games of the season. You have to stay healthy all season. Good job but that won't cut it for the probowl.

How many RBs have started 16 games in a season? 337

Gets a little tougher, you at least have to be considered better than the other running backs on the team for the coach to name you as his starter. You don't even have to touch the ball to accomplish this feat!!!

Where do you want to go from here? Here are some stats that are only cross referenced with 16 games started, not each other.

How many didn't fumble? 24.

You don't even have to touch the ball. Just stay healthy and be named the starter. That's elite company.

How many touched the ball at least 273 times? 165

Good but not legendary.

How many rushed for at least 1,515 yards? 50

Very, Very good.

How many had a 5.5 yard average? 8

Hall of Fame.

How many had 18 rushing TDs? 12

Hall of Fame.

Ok so am I cherry picking here? No, I'm not. I'm doing him a great disadvantage by comparing him to all past and future players. He's already looking good in terms of history. What about in just 2008?

Started 16 games, touched at least 273 times? 6

Alrighty then if the pro bowl was determined soley on starts and carries D-will is getting snubbed. Forte, Portis,

Didn't fumble?

7 but you can't rank them since 0 has no value.

Had at least 1515 yards? 2

No matter what conference he is in, he's making it. Turner had more yards so if only by going on these 2 stats alone, he's better.

To save your time TDs and average leave Williams alone.

So this is only cross referencing 3 stats with two of those being games and games started. He's in elite company very quickly and i haven't event compiled his body of work just yet or even cross referenced 3 more difficult feats.

Once you start looking at everything he did in that year he really stands out. Nothing should have held him to a disadvantage. Good team, early production, nationally televised games where he destroyed opposing defenses.

Everybody said that he split carries but he was 6th in the NFC in carries. So really that's the only thing that could possibly have held him back, but that's before anything else is referenced or cross referenced.

If it really was cherry picking then Williams wouldn't show up as the only one. In terms of body of work that season stands alone as one of the greatest of all time.

Pro-bowl is a popularity contest yes, and Williams was rightfully named All-pro when we the biased fans were left out. But even by a popularity contest this is just shameful.

Just cross referencing 1 or 2 things from Williams season only draws up a short list with nothing but HoFers or at least made the pro-bowl that year.

Jamal Charles got a pro-bowl and a big contract after a simmilar yet not nearly as impressive season.

If Williams never gets any respect then at least I hope he gets paid.

Can we somehow turn this into a Newton thread? Every thread must be one.

In all seriousness he did get snubbed and should already be signed long term with us...I can see why he would not be against leaving since we let it get this far lockout or not..plenty of other teams kept their players. Jonathan Stewart is great and all but RBs get hurt so much you need that rotation and I don't trust Goodson to be one of the main guys in that..

Virginia is still a Commonwealth! They aren't even a GD state! fml...

Wait, aren't the Redskins headquarted in VA?

So Virginia =/= a state

Therefore they are not one of the United States

Therefore they are not a part of this nation.

Therefore they can't be a part of the National Football League

So since they are no longer a team, all their players must go on the waiver wire. And we are the worst team in the league so we get first shot at all their good players! (Looks up Redskins roster) Aww dammit! No wonder Skins fans hate Snyder so much. Fug it just let them have their dang team.

i was eating some butterfingers with some friends and i had an extra one. Some fellow walked up and wanted the extra. I tossed it to him but he dropped it. We all said "butterfingers!". Then he just started bleeding from his nose and ears, collapsed to the ground.:(

    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
    • Maybe faked was too strong of a word.  "Milked" may be the better way to call it.
