Matt Moore Supporters ...Quick Question

That was actually the furthest thing from my mind when I threw this thread against the wall.

I mean, their games are so completely different, a real comparison is almost impossible. Moore has a pretty good deep ball and not much else. He might extend a play or two every few games, but defenses don't respect his run. He can't read a defense (but that's say for sure in our offense) But he has the respect of the team... they usually play hard when he's in the huddle.

But Cam... has a stronger arm. Maybe more accurate. But he hasn't even taken an NFL snap to adjust to the faster speed. Defenses will respect his speed rather than his arm at first. Imagine Steve Smith in the huddle when Cam constantly rushes.

They are too different to make accurate comparisons. Unless you know... you just wanted the result you got.

Matt Moore doesn't have that fake ass smile either. If Cam looked more like a true humble guy, that would help his image some.

While nobody likes a cocky asshat under center, you need somebody who thinks he's top poo in the huddle to motivate the rest of the squad.

What are the QB Qualities, Skills, Intangibles that you see in Matt Moore that you don't see in Cam Newton? If you could replace part/parts of Newton's game with Matt Moore's strengths what would those be?

I am not really a Moore supporter or anti Newton, but Matt Moore has won at the professional level. There is evidence that Moore can win if we put a good offense around him. There is no such evidence for Newton. Not saying we shouldn't draft him, but I hope that if we don't pick up a veteran, that we do keep Moore even if we draft Newton.

Of course, the comparison should really be between Newton and Gabbert or some other college player. No valid comparison can be made between Newton and Moore because Newton has played against a much lower level of competition.

Assuming he is healing properly, Moore is NFL ready. Cam, assuming we have a lockout that could end all camps and OTAs--perhaps even the preseason, will not be ready to play at a high level until 2012.

You have to ask it this way: What do Matt Moore and Marcell Dareus have that Cam does not?

1. The ability to play in 2011

2. NFL experience at QB

3. No character concerns

4. The ability to plug the middle and collapse the pocket

I like Moore. I think the 2nd half of the Giants game did more damage than we were led on to believe. I think the concussion really screwed him up for the 2nd half of that game and then the Cincy game.

I'm not against drafting Newton, however I do believe Moore should be the starter heading into camp. I don't want to see us throw Newton out there and he fail without being given a chance to learn.

My ideal depth chart at QB this season would be.

Moore

Newton

Veteran (QB)...In fact I know i'll get roasted at the notion, but I would probably bring Jake back at vet minimum to teach Cam some things. Not so much about the skills at the QB level, but about how to be a pro and a leader. You can bash Jake all you want for his play but you can't question his leadership nor his attitude

I would cut or trade clausen once the new CBA is in place

Moore will help us next year. He will be good enough until

we can get a "real QB" in 2012. Skip Newton and get a real player

like Dareus who can step right in and do some instant damage.

Why wait for years to develop a QB??

    • For Bryce’s obvious shortcomings (bad pun), there is upside to his game. This isn’t being a homer or apologists, but I like to consider myself fair in criticism.  He’s far tougher than I ever thought he’d be. I really thought homie would have been broken in half by now. I don’t know how he’s not, but he’s not.  He is prone to turning the ball over early in games which digs a huge hole the team is not built to come back from, but dude DOES come up with crucial first down in crucial situations. It’s NEVER pretty, but he just kind of has the shining. He gets bailed out LOTS, and the team still loses games because of him, but he’s a bit of an enigma. He’s a turnover machine that is clutch in big moments.  He’s a smart/elusive cat. He kind of has to be with his limitations. His audibles are almost always correct and he understands coverages. I don’t see him getting fooled too frequently. His turnovers are almost never the ‘damnit Jake/Cam!’ brand we have been accustomed to. They are ALWAYS due to his size/strength limitations.  Strip sacks that shouldn’t be. Picks that happened because he just don’t got that NFL arm. He is still prone to panicking and the wheels can and do fall off at a much higher rate than his peers.  The team is winning on the backs of the defense, running game and special teams… but they’re winning, and unbelievably 1 game behind Tampa. As long as this is happening and Bryce doesn’t go full meltdown, Dave is going to keep him in. He is not getting pulled.
    • This was a terrible podcast. A bunch of uninformed homers that had worse takes than the bottom 10% of the Huddle. I listened to a handful of podcasts this past offseason in search of new Panthers material since John Ellis doesn't do his pod anymore and The 4 Man Rush don't either. Immediately deleted it after the handful I listened to. Truly terrible.
    • The NFC South was so bad it sent a team with a losing record to the Playoffs that year. Wilks had players playing hard at the end but let’s not act like that was a good season. That season hurts even more now that we see in hindsight how good our QB situation was. We just didn’t know it.
