After Cam, then what???

I think its safe to assume that if we don't trade back Cam Newton will be the firs pick in the draft. So what do the panthers do after drafting their franchise QB??? One thing I'm worried about is reaching for players in the third...mainly defensive tackles. DT is a deep position in the draft but most of the starting caliber prospects will be gone by our second pick. I would hate to pick a guy like Drake Nevis or Jarvis Jenkins too soon bc we need help there.

So assuming Newton is the pick...what do the panthers do next???

After Newton gets picked? I think the next team in the draft order is the Cardinals at #5, but I'd have to look.

(unless he goes to the Bills at 3 instead, but I think they'll pick Gabbert)

Mr Scot...come on. One of these three things will happen on draft night.

1) we draft Cam and JOAT's head explodes.

2) we trade back to 5 and pick petersen and a collective sigh of relief happens.

3) we pick someone else confirming the biggest and most elaborate smokescreen in Panthers history...and teeray is banned for a week.

Now honestly...which one of those is the most likely scenario???

Cam is going to be the pick. Accept it and move on.

I'll do that shortly after it actually happens.

He may be, but I'm not convinced that decision is made just yet. And media speculation doesn't count as "evidence" no matter how much of it there is.

Any of 'em, except the part about JOAT's head exploding.

Regarding the smokescreen notion though, tell me this. Are the Panthers actually putting out pro-Newton info or is the media speculation frenzy fueling itself?

You guys are high if you think Carolina is going to give up on Clausen after one year. He is Hurneys pick. Cam newton will not be selected by Carolina. So it has been written, so it shall be done.

It's about RIVERA he doesn't want Clausen! So accept it already, and stop living in denial.

I don't think the media is just making things up...yes I understand they do this at times. But too many people are saying Newton will be the pick for it to be something just created out of thin air.

Edit: and where has anyone said any other name??? If the media was making something up wouldn't another propects name be out there from somebody as the front runner???

But that's not really the point...IF newton is the pick what do you see the Panthers doing in the third round and beyond.

Do you think the media has any actual source? If so, tell me what it is.

And Newton isn't universal just yet. There are still guys predicting other picks, and have been for some time.

Regardless, it's all speculation on all sides. No one has any substance, It's just what they think reading the tea leaves.

The mistake is in thinking that just because there's a ton of media speculation, it somehow must be true. It might be, but it's not a lock.

Like I said, speculation - no matter how much of it there is - doesn't qualify as "evidence".

    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
    • I said this ALL last season and will say it again this year. Our record means diddly squat this year, I don't care if we have 0 wins or 17 wins, I only care about one thing and one thing only. Bryce proves without a shadow of a doubt that he IS or ISN'T our long term solution at QB. It's the only thing that matters for the same reason it sucks that this is the same thing as last year.  This needs to be determined, and if they can't determine it, then it's still telling the team the answer, just not the one they want to hear. As right now we're in the ultimate QB purgatory, a position that dooms franchises for years.  Just look at a team like the Cardinals, who extended a better QB and it still screwed them over and haven't had a contending team in a long time. People get too caught up on wins and losses when evaluating players, particularly QBs.  When people look at the final record and use that as a reason to want to extend a QB or not is just a fools errand.  If we had lost 2-3 more games last year because we didn't make a last second FG, I genuinely wonder if we would have just moved on from Bryce this offseason (like we should have been doing anyways IMHO).
