QB Camp: Newton

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

This might have been discussed already, but I'm not reading so many pages and didn't want to start another Cam thread. I was listening to Peter King on 610am this morning. He was saying that the play that Cam was supposed to draw up for Gruden wasn't the play that he drew on the board.

I didn't play football and don't know how to read what he drew...can anyone clarify this? He was pretty adament on this being a huge flaw for Cam.

Find the clip and I will do my best to see what's going on

Yeah, from what I can tell it looks like he drew the play up that was on the screen but he did an absolutely horrible job describing it and talking about it. Didn't mention any reads, didn't mention possibly hot routes, didn't mention anything above the "simple" concept which he mentioned several times.

I stopped after the first draw up, not sure if there are more, if there are let me know but that video is hard to watch.

He sounds like Blackcatgrowl when talking about plays honestly. This is worrisome.

Basically the second play design was I hope they don't do their job because I only have one read.

He's not really good at talking about plays or play design but he just talks about the singular play and what happened on that one play.

Gruden wants him to expand to talk about what happens if this and that not "well the safety was looking at me so 'We got Em'"

Then towards the end he says "I know it was wrong but..."

Yay for Cam Newton !!!

But the important thing, TRD, is that Gruden is convinced he can make the transition.

Joking aside, if Gruden came away from talking to him and felt like he can cover the ground he's missed, that does count for something even if he did look a bit lost in the interview itself.

Ouch. That's not gonna help the old rep, is it?

Wonder how he did on the Panther playbook quiz.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
