QB Camp: Gabbert

Knowledge>Production?

College Production? There are plenty of successful NFL QB's that didn't have good production. If we are talking about production then Mallet should be far and away the number QB in the draft... being he has a a 60-14 TD ratio in the SEC and way more passing samples then Newton.

The production in college game is meaningless.

So you want a guy who can produce in an extremely unconventional college system who may not even be able to read and understand the playbook over a guy who has shown the knowledge to play on an NFL level....

I want a guy who can produce in whatever system he is thrown into....ie Blinn and Auburn

Success in simplified systems doesn't guarantee he'll succeed in a more complex one.

There's no more guarantee that Newton succeeds here than there is with Gabbert. Both have legitimate concerns.

(not the same concerns, but both legitimate concerns)

I'm not worried about college production... I'm worried about NFL production.

And unfortunately, there is no real correlation between college production and NFL production.

Tell me....where's Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan now....nobody produced more then those two kids....

Why don't we draft Greg McElroy? Smartest guy in the draft

Why don't we draft Greg McElroy? Smartest guy in the draft

Because Gabbert also has the physical tools to be great - McElroy has some big red flags when it comes to the physical side of the game, even if his mental side is an A+.

That being said, I don't want to draft a quarterback. I would go with Gabbert if I went QB, though.

Same for me.

I would agree with you guys if we had even a competent option to start at QB, and I'm a broken record on this point, but we don't have one, and with our front office's track record, I doubt we're not going to go out and find one through FA.

If we draft a QB #1, and we probably will, he's our guy from day one.

This draft has guys with the physical tools and guys with the mental tools, but I'm not convinced there's anyone that has both.

I think Gabbert has the total package he just doesn't have enough of it to be a top 5 QB in 5 years so I can't justify him being the number one pick....

There's nobody in this draft I trust to be able to do that.

I think we have to get a veteran. Preferably by trade, but even a stopgap via free agency would be okay with me.

I can guarantee you that Gabbert, Mallett or any other top college QB could have had the production that Cam had at Blinn. The difference is, that they didn't have to go to JUCO for a year. Mallett left Michigan and immediately had offers from other FBS schools. Cam went to Blinn because he had to prove that he could keep his nose clean and play at a high level before any schools would even touch him.

What? Gabbert has the physical and the Mental, it's a matter of whether he can put them together or not. No denies his physical or Mental.. 6.5 235 strong arm, and runs a 4.6.. what more physical do you want?

That's been my feeling all along, I just don't see it happening.
