John Fox thinks we pass on Cam Newton

Now we get to see how much of Hurney's decisions are his own or similar to what Fox always wanted. Fox would never take Newton and is likely to take Dareus if he is there at number 2.

I wonder if Fox agreed we should take Clausen last year as well as Pike. How about Edwards?? Seems at least last year Hurney did his own thing and didn't follow Fox's lead like in the past.

How so?

I was mostly being a smartass, but I do think this team has turned away from the old "Fox way" of doing things. I don't think Fox has much in the way of inside information and I do think that if Hurney was sold on Newton he'd be the choice. I think that Hurney does believe that you need a QB in this league now. But is Newton that QB? Dunno. I think he wants Dareus himself but he isn't sure he'll be there. Maybe he's hoping weighing in will somehow cause an early announcement (but seems unlikely).

He may also be trying to put it out there because NFL teams made trades in advance of the draft (obviously with the caveat that player must be there) so this could be a way of getting people to make some calls.

That's why his ass is in Denver and not here! I think he's calling out Hurney... he's using reverse psychology to make Hurney pick newton so that Dareus is there for him to gobble up. Who really cares though?

I can guarentee that for the first time in a long time Fo will have NOTHING to do with our draft... Let's see how we do without him

I would assume that if he's asked a question, he answers it... and since it's not the team he's coaching, he can answer honestly. :D

Yeah. I mean, is someone trying to keep asking him about his old team instead of asking him about his current team he's coaching now?? :p

He definitely won't get 9 years there, that's for sure. I say he's on the hot seat after two, and gone in 3.

Doubt it. I think he will last longer more than you guys think. More than McDaniels for sure. :D :D

Makes sense.

Just saw it on NFL Network. He said, "I know Hurney, and I am not sold he will take Cam Newton. I think they will take Dareus". This would explain why the Broncos are looking for trade down options.. they don't think Dareus will be on the board. Anyways, thought that was interesting to hear Fox's take.

Fox is more knowledgable about our team needs than anyone.

excellent news.

    • When you analyze what Tulsky has done the only positive was getting Ehlers, he blew the Gentzel signing, whiffed on Rantanan, signed Miller who is a terrible fit, never addressed the goalie problem, signing a declining Freddie instead, and wasted a ton of cap space this year with inaction. My verdict is he might be great at analytics but sucks as a general manager.
    • If you think the refs we have are bad, you probably don't remember just how bad it got the last time they used replacement refs... including an incident of a Packers fan ref massively influencing a game. The NFL, when you consider all the other things tied to it like TV rights, betting, stadiums (construction, ticket prices, heck even parking and concessions), plus merchandizing, is probably a trillion dollar industry. Give the refs what they want, pay them and let's get back to having games.
    • Probably.  You never know.  It always amazes me to think how many times they miss on first rounders (about 50%) and the number of misses increases every round.  Then there are UDFAs that make the team every year.  I guess we are always looking for the next gem--but most never make it.  Funny, I was at dinner last night and there was this big guy with a WCU shirt on.  I recognized him--that OT from Western that we gave a tryout last year or the year before--Smith.  He explained his experience--just wanted to see how he could hold up against the big boys.  He played a preseason game and was terrible, fwiw.
