(Inspired my Mr. Scot)

QB-Cam Newton

HB-DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart

FB-Tony Fiametta

WR-David Gettis

WR-Brandon LaFell

TE-Jeremy Shockey

As mentioned previously things change quickly, so tell me how comfortable are you guys with this as our core group of guys in the next few years....

With Rivera/Chud factored in? I would feel okay....

Considering what Fox/Davidson where able to do in 08 and parts of 09.

I think it's unrealistic to think that even assuming the Panthers will take Newton, he will start in the 2011 season.

Even with Newton on the roster, the Panthers will almost certainly have to find someone in either a trade or free agency to start ahead of him for at least one or two seasons while he learns the offense.

Newton, just like any player in a skill position fresh out of college will be a project of sorts. This is only compounded by Newton's lack of experience with a pro-style offense.

Even with his undeniable athletic prowess, the quickest way to lose your first round pick (again, assuming it's Newton) to a potentially career ending injury will be to stick him, a confused kid, out there and let him get destroyed by those monsters. It's a miracle that Jimmy Clausen isn't freakin' dead and he had a leg up by coming from a pro-style offense.

Jimmy Clausen (a 2nd round pick) started 10 games as a rookie for us last season. Cam Newton (our 1st round pick) will start games as a rookie for us.

jimmy clausen started 10 games because no one else could stay healthy.

sooner or later people will come to grips with the fact that it was never carolina's intent for clausen to see the field...despite the drama the media cooked up over the offseason.

Thats true he was kind of forced in. But he was so called pro ready.

But you cant tell me they then want to see what Clausen had in him.

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
