Once we draft Cam, this fanbase will support him right?

Awesomeness!!

Right now I don't like Cam Newton. Tonight, if we pick him.. he will be embraced, but he will need to win me over with his play. In fact, he will probably have to win us all over with his play.. because if he stinks it up like Clausen did last year.. the fanbase will lose some faith.

I will because I am a panther fan. I still think it is the wrong choice and will be a poor choice to run Chud's Air-Coreyell offense. They will have to develop a watered down offense and implement elements of the spread offense to suit this guy and that is a huge cop out to me. I was stoked to have a down the field passing game coming to Carolina but now we're going look like a college team on the field trying to play in the NFL. Steve Spurrier tried it in Washington and it failed. It ended his tenure and pretty much ended the career of Campbell. They traded up to take Campbell and Spurrier tried to bring the spread offense to the NFL and it doesn't work because NFL defenses are too fast. Newton will not have success in the NFL with a spread hybrid. He is not a 4 or 5 read QB and will not have success in being a true pocket passer. I see Vince Young written all overhim. A little excitement when running and using his legs, but defenses will learn how to defend him within a year or two and that will be the end of his career and we'll be in the same boat we are now 3-5 years from now.

He is just the wrong pick. Plain and simple. I'll support him and hope we win, but it will be with a "wait and see" outlook. I won't buy his jersey for at least 4 years because I honestly don't think he'll last that long.

Will fans rally around him if he's taken? Yes, and they should.

Will some folks turn on him after his first few mistakes? Sadly, also true.

Fans are demanding of quarterbacks, and often unreasonably so. I doubt Newton would be immune from that.

Did Jimmy Clausen get 100% backing by the team?

It'll be by an individual basis. Some will be so polarized by the pick that they won't be able to bring themselves to support it, but at the same time there will be those looking for any excuse to criticize the pick and inflate their ego.

Currently I am pessimistic about Cam (and all other QB's in the draft his year). However, if he is a Panther, I will be fully optimistic and support him (and any other player drafted) going forward.

However, I will not go out and buy his jersey. You gotta prove yourself before I do that.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
