James Carpenter to Seattle?

Weird pick. NFL Network even showed Nick Saban be like, "whaaaa?"

certainly a reach, but a huge need in Seattle...

really surprised how high Locker went...I know lots of Hawk fans that were thinking we might get him in the 2nd and most thought 25th was way too high!!!

Yea, I mocked Seattle an OT a couple months ago. Don't you think Carimi would have been more what they need? Natural RT, bigger and more highly thought of than Carpenter...and Carpenter is supposedly built more for LT..I'd have to say it's a bottom 5 pick so far.

They gave away the house!

Has anyone been on their board?

I'm pretty happy with Atlanta getting Julio Jones, because of what they gave up to get him. Am I happy about having to face that offense for the next couple of years? Not really, but Tony G doesn't have many more seasons in him, and Michael Turner can't stay healthy all year anymore.

Let Atlanta mortgage their future.

IDK.... I don't think the trade was that bad and Atlanta gave up too much...

Essentially to move from the back end of the 1st round to #6 you gave up next years 1st ( probably a late 1st round pick), this years 2nd (later 2nd round pick.... and two 4th round pick (who cares, the chances of those 4th rounders coming close to Jones are slim).

Your offense is now set and you can focus on drafting defense, signing defensive fa's.

I don't understand why so many think ATL gave up too much. They began the draft with exactly 1 pick in the 1st round. They used exactly 1 pick to get the Observer's 5th rated player. What they basically did was gave up next year's 1st (which will probably not be so hot a pick) to move up from #27 to #6. The other draft spots just mean that they'd have to part with a player already on the roster if the drafted player makes the roster. They definately got some firepower.

Looks like you were think the same thing as me ... at the same time :)

And we did NOTHING to counter it.

We can't stop Julio Jones, we can't stop Michael Turner, we can't get in a shoot out with Matt Ryan. We did NOTHING to help us, we will have a slightly better season then last year because of the coaching staff.

Right...we didn't get the best pure athlete in this draft at all. You're a moron.

Quit bitching over the Newton pick. It is the only one that makes sense. Our defense was FINE last season, minus injury. They were on the field too long. Our offense SUCKED. Partly due to Clausen, partly due to a depleted OL, and largely due to the coaching staff. Take out your tampon and relax.

For anybody who thinks Newton was the worst (or even among the 3 worst) picks, state why (other than you think he's bad). Why? Some of you who HATE Newton absolutely LOVE Rivera, and Rivera LOVES some Cam Newton (based on EVERYTHING he has said so far about picking Newton). So, by that logic, you hate Rivera vicariously JUST for wanting Newton.

Newton was a great pick. Best athlete, fills a need. Guy is going to be dangerous. If he isn't, I'll eat my words. But I'd rather be optimistic and happy than whining on the huddle about how bad the pick was and hating the whole season. Because if Newton does great, you a-holes will come on here and say how great of a pick it was. You can't have it both ways.
