Round 3: Panthers Select Sione Fua

We could've traded both of those picks for Randall Cobb, Marvin Austin, or the big DT from Oregon St. that went right behind him. Look how dominant the Bears and Giants DLs have been over the years. There's a reason. They pick good players, not leftovers. And they took both of those DTs that we should've been targeting, but that's just my opinion.

Can't trade a comp pick.

So the whole basis of your opinion is wrong.

Okay, I can watch highlights of almost any player owning at some time.

No one KNOWS if they can play, even scouts who study this for a living dont know. They are making predictions just like us, but the difference is theirs are waaaaay more informed.

They are looking at leverage, pad level, hand quickness, reactions, strength, etc, etc, etc. Not seeing someone push someone in the back field.

Nobody here knows if we just drafted a probowl DT or someone who is going to be cut soon.

He didn't own "sometime" he owned almost every snap when SC played Stanford. People put too much weight into stats, they think if a player doesn't have a ton of tackles he sucks....Fua did exactly what his job was, eat up space so the backers could fly around free making tackles. He was a damn good NT in college. Will it transition to the pros, maybe, maybe not. But he definitely knows how to play the position....

Well it was nice knowing you Nick Hayden.

You know it's bad when a former 5th round pick is your starter, not because he's a gem in the rough, but becasue there's not anything better to put out on the field. :(

Thanks Nick, you been servicable....sort of.

Good pick up IMO. He will need to bulk up this year. His upper body strength seem a bit avg for a man of his side. Def would not want to start him at NT in the NFL by any means. Prob will translate to a 2 down DT IMO.

Yeah, I get what you are saying. My post wasn't directed at you TBH.

I am just getting annoyed with fans the last few days when they think they know if a player is going to be awesome or he is going to bust.

To much Triangle sports radio. Too much Newton/Panther bashing the last few days.

People calling in complaining about picking Cam then saying we should have "drafted the DT from Bama" Fuggers dont even know his name, but thinks we should have used the number 1 pick on him.

I have reached the point where I am sick of analysts and wanna be analysts.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
