Clausen's Still Fighting

I know there's been a lot of speculation about whether Jimmy would give Cam his jersey and Clausen said the the following:

"It's mine right now," Clausen said of the No.2 jersey. "We'll see what happens."

Has Clausen set an asking price?

He smiled and said again: "We'll see what happens."

He also said that he met with Hurney and Rivera and came away feeling optimistic that he'll have a chance next year and that he's going to have fun competing with Cam.

Cam originally planed on stay in Charlotte longer but once the lockout was put back on he decided to leave yesterday. Hopefully if some of the guys decide to get together to practice or workout he'll come back. You can read the whole article here.

To Clausen: Just go away, you are not welcome here.

If nothing else having a competition will make one of the QBs better. I'm sure that having however many QBs in training camp fighting it out will elevate their game. Not saying it will make any of them flat out incredible but competition breads improvement. I thought last years training camp was going to be fun to watch because of Moore/Clausen (it was not fun to watch) but depending on who we have on the roster come training camp time the sparks could really fly.

Some of you are just brain dead. Why would you NOT want Clausen competing? Why would you NOT want him beating out Cam? You think Cam will progress more rapidly if all competition is eliminated? Do you think Cam is owed the job now? If Clausen plays well, we benefit in many ways. It buys time for Cam to develop (by the way, don't you think Cam should stay in Charlotte to work with players who might help him learn the playbook?) and it gives us a potential Kevin Kolb to trade. Go away, Jimmy? It must be convenient for you to blame everything on Jimmy. I do not have time here to take you back into your childhoods to when you should have learned about common sense and loyalty. If you hate a Panther that much when so much else went wrong with this franchise, there is no help for YOU. If Clausen fights for the job and does it well, we get better as a franchise. We do not OWE Cam or anyone else squat.

Good read. I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with the way Clausen has handled all this. Seems he is nothing like the spoiled rotten brat he was made out to be back in 2010, before the draft.

I really hope Clausen sticks around. I think he could be a serviceable back-up. One that's not going to make waves in the locker room.

I have a feeling that drafting Newton might have been the best thing for Clausen, I’ve watched his tapes and he can make all the throws so his problem was probably mental. The young man was not ready to be the starter on this team and needed to sit for awhile and learn, instead he was thrown to the wolves. Now with Newton here he knows he is not in the long term plans as the starting QB for the Panthers so what does he have to lose? Clausen can now go out on the field and let her rip, he no longer has to worry about losing his starting job because when Newton is ready (this is if Newton reaches his potential) he will take over. Clausen knows what the coaches want, he’s had time to think about it and that is throw the ball down field, no more of this dinking and dunking stuff. What does he have to lose, either he settles down and keeps his job for a little while ( along with him auditioning for another team) or he gets pulled sooner than later.

You my friend is not welcome...

Every Panther is welcome. And you apparently is not a Panther so GTFO.

Internet talk is tough buddy, you little cyber bully you. By the way learn to speak English.

Clausen is not welcome; especially with that attitude, acting like he is entitled to something. He is entitled to nothing he is one of the main reason's along with the coaching staff from last year that we are where we are and now he thinks that he deserves number two. For what reason, he couldn't even reach two wins last year.

There is a simple way to solve the number debacle.

Going into training camp and possibly preseason (if there is one), Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen pick different numbers other than number two: for example Clausen pick's 13 and Newton pick's 5. After deciding on their numbers, they battle it out in training camp and in the preseason and who ever gets the starting job or is higher on the depth chart gets number two.

Now, I know someone is going to say something idiotic and foolish, like this sounds like a high school football move. However, like you all have said; competition will bring out the best in everyone.

Nonetheless, Clausen has no reason to get all high and mighty that he owns number two when more or less he doesn't even deserve that number or any number for that matter.
