Could Barry Cofield and Jovan Haye revive our defense?

Recommended Posts

Guys like that tend to get severely over-paid in free agency. If we can get him for a decent price I'd be fine with it, but I have a feeling he'll want more and some team will offer it.

there are times when you will see a team over pay a bit for talent. You can't get everything for free.

I like Big Barry but would liked to spend Haye money on a CB in FA.

Johnathan Joseph, and Barry with a WR and a cheap vet QB would be great in FA.

Do we have enough money to resign CJ, DWill, James Anderson, Dante R.,TD, Landry or Ed johnson? Then sign Joseph, Cofield, a Vet Wr and QB?

That would be a great offseason.

I read that Jonathan Joseph is priority one for the Bengals this offseason. I am really worried about the CB position next year. I dont want Marshall back at all, and were not going to get in a bidding war for Aso and Joseph will probably be back in Cinci. Grimes is a restricted free agent and will definitly be back in Atlanta. That leaves us with options like Florence, Wright, and Josh Wilson. Not very great options.

No one said anything about keeping sixteen defensive linemen, and Ed Johnson is most certainly “not good as gone”, there is no way that Nick Hayden beats him out for a roster spot because Ron Meeks will vouch for Johnson as he is the sole reason that Johnson is on the Panthers roster. Taylor is most likely gone unless they think he adds depth at the defensive end position and/or would benefit and contribute in the 3-4 packages as an OLB.

I personally believe Ed Johnson is as good as gone from this team. We were extremely weak at DT last year and he was replaced by Neblett in the line up. I think we keep 9 defensive lineman this year.

Johnson/Hardy/Brown/Brayton or a FA

FA (Cofield)/McClain/Landri/Sua/Neblett

I would say ten because I think they might line Norwood up in the defensive end position this year, especially in the 3-4 schemes.

I thought Hilee Taylor was cut last year.

I've been wanting Coefield for a while, wouldn't mind bringing back Hollis Thomas although he's old as dirt.

Hollis Thomas ain't coming back. He's still on the hook for a 6 game suspension if he's ever active again, if I'm not mistaken.

not particularly crazy about the idea of 12 spots on the roster getting taken up by Dlinemen. remember we need more depth than usual at LB due to us running a 3-4 a lot and we still need spots for DBs.

of course, the new CBA will probably include an extended season and with that could be increased roster size, but given the current roster size i wouldn't do it.

not that we couldn't use the extra bodies there, i just don't think it's all that feasible.

i wouldn't go more than 10 on the line.

Defense seems fine to me. The biggest addition to our defense will be a Quarterback who can sustain a drive.

Amen. How can you expect a defense to sustain success when the offense is either going 3 and out, or turning the ball over all the time?
