Don't ever buy a brother printer

gah what a piece of fuging poo.

My father bought a Brother MFC 210 printer/copier/fax/toaster oven/whatever the hell else a few years ago. I guess the "MFC" stands for "motherfuging c*nt" because you'll exclaim that plenty when trying to use this machine.

what's wrong with it? where do i start? as soon as we got the damn thing the phantom paper jams were plentiful, 8 year long "cleaning" sessions are frequent, oh and by the way, when it cleans, it uses ink. is that fuging ridiculous or what? So even if you don't use it much, that son of a bitch will still swallow ink like there's no tomorrow. I was so pissed off one day i wrote a review about it on epinions.

I swear everytime I go up to the damn thing one of the 18 ink cartridges that are in there is out of ink, well, actually, the thing might be half-full, but the goddamn printer refuses to work if it doesn't have a new cartridge.

If I was the one that actually bought the thing I would've stuck it in the driveway and back my Impala right the fug over it. And with my crappy job, there's no budget for a new printer.

You basically just highlighted most all printers you buy now. They are make cheap, very cheap. These places make their money off the ink now, not the hardware unfortunately. If you print quite often, getting 2 years out of a printer like this is good. They don't make them like they used too, I had a ink-ribbon printer a long time ago, and that thing was a beast.

The only good printer I've ever gotten was the most simple HP available in '97(no faxing/copying/etc, just prints) - it's still working fine.

well before we got this piece of crap we'd been using an HP inkjet we bought in 1994. The only reason we replaced it was because the resolution of images was really out of date by that time, it never had a hardware problem and would make do when it ran out of a certain color, but the technology was pretty much outstanding at the time we bought it. Also their cartridges were just a black ink one and a color ink one. That one color ink cartridge would last 3 or 4 times as long as the brother cartridges for the piece of garbage i use, or at least try to use.

We have a couple of Dell printers that came with some systems we bought at the office and have been having trouble with the toner running out quickly. The inital batch of toner that came with them lasted forever, but now any new toner we buy is gone in a hurry...

I pretty much stick with HP printers and plotters and don't have too many issues.

  • 1 year later...

This is why i wll never buy a brother again. When it thinks you are out of ink it stops working. From what I have read it does this when the toner is still half full. There are some tricks online like covering up certain holes with duct tape that will fool it for a while. But the toner life is really short...even when its not out of toner.

So i gotta go buy a toner carttridge. Big deal. The principal is Brother forces you to buy toner every so often whether you need it or not.

Oh yeah i am trying to print a report during busy season.

We use only HP at work and I only get HP at home. Ink cartridges are cheaper. At home, it's an inkjet-do-everything (wanted the copy feature) but all that HP wants running in the background was annoying. I uninstalled everything but the print driver. I can still scan through Scanners/Cameras in the control panel and it is so much easier.

One of our properties bought a brother some years ago that was supposed to do everything. Turns out it wouldn't scan to a pdf file which is death in our business. Part of my job is getting software/hardware working for 170 properties no matter what so I found a 3rd party program that allowed that brother to scan to pdf. When it stopped printing a year later, I had them throw it out.

Too bad you aren't in the Charlotte area. I have an old HP plain inkjet you could have. Check out your local Goodwill. They have older printers for $10 or less and you can find the drivers online. Just be sure to talk to them about returning it if it doesn't work.

And for God's sake, stay away from Lexmark. Worse than Brother. You'll need a 2nd/3rd job just to afford the toner.

    • That's usually the narrative when there aren't highly touted QBs or DEs. Off ball LB is the position this year. And there are some really good prospects. WRs are deep too. No generational level guys but very deep with solid options.  I would target CJ Allen in the 1st. I want a real ILB. Not a pass rusher that can move back. Not a safety that can move up. He's smart, tough, instinctive and durable. Dude had surgery on his meniscus and missed one game. One game. And... he's only played LB. Watching him control guards with his hands andsift through the garbage to get to the ball is refreshing. That's my guy in the 1st.
    • It’s always a weak draft, next year is always better according to the draftniks. This is a weak draft for QB, WR, and TE. Theres only a few true LT. RB and DB are average. It’s a good class for the rest of the Oline, Dline, Edge, and LB.
    • there is only a handful of blue chippers (Reece, Styles, Downs, Love, Bain) but overall its a pretty deep draft with solid players.  Really deep on the defensive side particularly lb's so that is in our favor.  Thats why I have been saying if styles is not there at 19 (he wont be) then try to pull a Rams/Falcons type deal and get another 2nd and first for next year.  IMO there really isnt much difference in quality of players at the back half of the first into the 2nd
