LB Johnson restructured, staying

The Carolina Panthers are planning to keep linebacker Landon Johnson and are reworking his contract to save approximately $1 million in salary cap space for the 2009 season.

The Observer has learned the deal is imminent, though not yet final.

There has been speculation that the Panthers would release Johnson, but that would've saved them about the same amount of cap space that they'll be getting with the changes to his contract.

Happy the team is saving money, but it's not like Johnson contributed much last season.

Part of the reason he wasn't cut was his injury and the timing of when he could be cut verses when the cap hit takes place.

However I think that he will get better as he learns out D. I know another OLB who improved a lot during his second year with us...Diggs.

With Johnson, Connor and (probably) Anderson returning plus Curry being available for re-signing if need be, I doubt they address LB in the draft unless another steal like last year drops in their laps.
