Per a source with knowledge of the situation, NFLPA* executive director DeMaurice Smith told the players, “Don’t believe the hype.” Smith also said that a deal isn’t close.

He probably doesn't want the players to go out and blow all the $ they've been saving up because the media is talking about the lockout being over in a matter of days/weeks.

NFL owners and players wrapped up two days of face-to-face talks Thursday afternoon in the Boston area.

Face-to-face negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement are expected to resume next week, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen. However, the sides have continued to work on issues outside their formal meetings, and that is expected to remain the protocol.

A source told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio that Wednesday's talks were "very fruitful" and the expectation is that discussions will continue until a deal is reached.

"We are headed in the right direction," the source said. "There is a desire on both sides to reach an agreement sooner rather than later."

You do realize that Smith didn't lock the owners out, but that the owners locked the players out.

This whole ordeal was initiated by the owners, not the players, so why are you holding the Player Rep responsible for fixing the mess that the owners created?
