Jimmy Clausen on Cam and state of the Panthers (video interview)

Clausen looks like he's gained a little bit of weight, facially anyway.

I liked Jimmy at ND; but, at the pro level, he has a long way to go.

As best I can tell, it's never been a problem with what he says to the media since being drafted, the problem is what he does or doesn't do on the field.

Anyway, thanks for posting the clip.

As far as being "ready to compete", I kind of took his answers the opposite way. She asked if he was going to be able to compete for the starting job, and he just said that was up to the coaches. It's obviously up to the coaches, but I would have liked to hear him at least say, "I want that job, and I'm going to go out there and bust my ass. Cam's gonna have to just flat out beat me in camp if he wants the gig."

Good clip.

Clausen is there for now. I still believe he can learn a lot, and become better as a pro QB.

He has that one year under his belt, and even though he didn't play well, there were a lot of things against him. Under the circumstances, I'd say he did the best he could and at the very least gained much needed experience playing in the NFL.

Now we have Cam coming in, basically in the same boat as Clausen last year. But now with the new coaching staff, a new outlook for the team, I think both Jimmy and Cam will be in a much better position compared to what was going on last year.

The media would be ready to start a feud between him and Cam that's what they're waiting for.

who gives a flying fock about the number effing 2

I absolutely couldn't believe it when I saw that. Theyre still trying to make something of it. It tells you what they think of our market if they consider that as one of things we WANT news about.

"Oh ya and, Bob, give them stupid panthers fans some news about what # their QB's will be wearing, they dont really understand football anyways right? They just like looking at the pretty uniforms"

if last season doesn't humble you, nothing will.

there will be a quarterback competition. Rivera will go into this coming season with the player that will help us win the most football games this year. he's made it clear he doesn't feel a first rounder rookie has to start out of the gate just because they were taken in the first round (or #1 overall). I'm sure Jimmy has been told as much.

if Clausen works at it, never know what could happen...

He didn't say it because he already knows his role... He saw Cam's superior physical abilities at the player run camps. He knows that he will be behind him From day 1. There's no reason for him to speak out the side of his neck. He just can't compete with Cam. I kind if feel bad for him... Oh wait, that's right right he SUCKED last year.

I do hope that if Cam happens to go down during the season, that he can have a few " Kevin Kolb" type games like when Mcnabb went down in Philly. It would boost his trade value tremendously. Plus it would only help the team. I just don't see it in him though :-(

He did have a horrible rookie season @ ND and then he bounced back in a big way the following year. Only time will tell. I for one am not optimistic about him whatsoever. I tried that last year... Didn't work out so good.

    • height being an issue doesn't just mean batted balls.  You could argue Bryce minimizes batted balls by adopting other poor habits such as his jump passing and leaving the pocket.   As I said, there are plays you can point to where he clearly was blind to parts of the field/players....which kills plays and opportunity. Which actually means some of the shorter/hot throws when things break down are where his vision gets blocked (and he had below average production all around the line of scrimmage).   has he figured it out? I mean, he improved off a trainwreck start.  But Bryce Young since arriving in the league (even while figuring it out)......doesn't generate much offensive production vs his peers.  I just think his ceiling is low.   And that's not in the grand scheme what you want in the NFL.  I think he can develop into a serviceable QB, that will largely always been a middle of the pack or low end starter.
    • People make a lot of noise about his footwork and I think it is overblown. Whether he takes 3 steps backwards or 5 small steps doesn't matter as long as he ends up at the right depth and is in sync with  the receiver regarding timing. If he does that consistently who cares as long as he has a firm stable base as he delivers the ball. Which he does need to work on. However even that is somewhat overblown given that often QBs have to throw off balance or from different arm angles to fit the ball around defenders. He is considered very accurate so apparently it isn't hurting him that much.
    • Thank you for all the release metaphors!  It's helped make my morning 😃 But no...just eww..
