Clausen not rolling over on being the starter

So he picks THIS year not to roll over.

Great.

Honestly Clausen is more cocky than Newton he obviously thought everything would be handed to him in the NFL, and now since we drafted Newton he's decided to step up his game.

There is absolutely nothing that suggests that.

Did Clausen beat you up as a kid?

If Clausen Improves, then Cam would be a wasted pick..

Even an improved Clausen won't be half as good as newton in a few years. So no it wasn't a wasted pick. Besides, our recent history shows that we need at least 2 starters to make it through a season.

Clausen is sounding like a broken record.

"That's how you have to think. When you go out to practice you want to do as much as you can to be the starting quarterback," Clausen said. "At the end of the day, I can control only what I can control and the coaches are going to make the decisions, who's going to play and who's not going to play."

He said the exact same thing last year.

Clausen isn't as bad as some believe and isn't as good as the others believe.

The situation last season was, by far, not a good situation for a rookie QB to be put into. You have a lame duck coach who doesn't particularly give a rats ass which direction this team goes. An offensive coordinator that couldn't coordinate an escape from a wet paper bag and a rookie QB thrust into a no win situation. I think that should allow Clausen to obtain a mulligan for 2010.

I look at it as 2 rookie QB coming in. Both have to learn the new system. I think Newton has the advantage of athletic ability and Clausen time in the saddle. Let them battle it out, sooner or later this will be Newton's team but if Clausen does show he has what it takes then we should have a solid backup and trade bait for the future.

I think it will be a fun battle to watch, if and when training camp opens.

Folks, it kills me to see how many of you have given up on a 23 year old QB--JOHN ELWAY sucked worse than Clausen as a rookie (both started about the same number of games) and he was the first overall pick. He is a Panther, you are Panther fans, but you HATE Panther players? We had a losing season. There were dozens of reasons not related to Clausen. Newsflash: We would have sucked with TOM BRADY as the QB. TOM BRADY would have sucked as a rookie in this crap. Get over yourselves. The best thing that could happen to the Panthers is BOTH become great! This is about winning football games, not about your inability to handle losing or a distorted addiction to the right to say "I told you so." Get off his ass! Most of you sucked in middle school football, but you think you are qualified to brutally attack a player on your favorite NFL team?

It's easier to place the blame on one person who plays the most important position rather than admitting the entire team sucked.

Don't compare Clausen's rookie debacle where he had the lowest rating of any quarterback with Brady's first season of starting where he completed 64% of his passes, had a passer rating of 86 and a TD to INT ration of 18 to 12. No he wouldn't have sucked as bad as Clausen did and it wasn't the system that made Brady great. Brady is likely just as responsible for making the Patriots as they are for making him.

Clausen was terrible plain and simple and all the excuses won't change that. A diatribe such as you produced does nothing to change the facts. How does one exactly brutally attack another person with words over the internet on a site where the 4 letter word for excrement get changed to poo.

People who paid to watch that pitiful excuse of a team have every right to complain if they chose although it is frankly water under the bridge and largely irrelevant.

What is laughable though is posters like you criticizing others for message board attacks on players by making personal attacks on these posters. You in effect are telling others to use some level of civility without offering the same to them. Why not take your own advice? Or does that only extend to players and not fans. Seems to me that part of the job of being an athlete who is paid millions is to endure the criticisms and barbs that are inherent in the job and for which they are well compensated.
