It will simply prevent poorly run teams from paying more for bad decisions at the top of the draft, a problem which is completely overblown to begin with.

Bingo... In fact we will see more Russells because those poorly run teams will now take even more risks and making even more bad decisions.

Guys, nothing will stop or encourage future busts like Russell from entering the league.

This cap will have nothing to do with the talent in scouting departments and team philosophy.

All this does is take money from draftees.

Wouldn't it be roughly $70m? Isn't our salary cap somewhere around the $55-65m range? (Not including Cam's contract.)

If the team opts for the 5th year of the deal, then Cam would get a contract worth about 50 million. Probably look about like 4 years for 28 - 34 million, then the last year would be top 10 salary guaranteed.

Pretty good for the team that he isn't the highest paid player in the league, which he would have been if the Rookie System didn't get put into place.

Unproven rookie's do not deserve the type of money they receive toward the top of the draft. The vetern NFL players agree with this statement. It is necessary to fix this issue.

In return, the rookie's get a shorter contract so that they will be able to hit free agency sooner, and get their big payday quicker than before. The 'busts' will get less up front money, and will leave the league quicker. It helps the NFL teams recover from their bad decisions/draft picks, and reallocate that money to the players that deserve it. It's a win/win for both the players and the teams.

A rookie cap is in place for several reasons that are beneficial not only to the NFL but the sport of Football on the whole. From the contamination of the youth as early as PEE WEE level (who did not see that Bob Ley piece) to the runners in college and even HS who are all trying to establish a facade "relationship" that will lead to the big payday, to the lack of support and guidance that is expected from a manager/agent once that first big contract is inked, the benefits are too obvious to ignore.

This will not solve it, but its a step in the right direction.

If you don't see it, you're ignorance and lack of imagination is failing you again.

      31st rushing D and 8 carries by Rico is coaching.  Rico is easily the best offensive weapon right now and it’s not really close.  *literally everyone knows Dalton is washed, horrible and shouldn’t even be a backup QB.   Drive 1? ZERO carries.  Coaching.  Drive 2 - Rico was playing great.   Did Canales lean into that or go for “balance”? Coaching. Drive 3 - ZERO carries.  Coaching  Drive 4 - 1 carry and opted for Jimmy Horn gadget rush (you can’t stick  with the Horn repetitive gadget runs each week and that’s not a better idea than getting Rico going)  Drive 5 - basically Dalton heavy as the half expired.  I don’t need to watch a game to know it’s coaching.  The gameplan wasn’t about setting Rico up to go off on a trash rush D.  It was bullshit harmony balance of the rush and the pass and making Hubbard feel good.

      In the locker room after the Dallas game, multiple  players said FEED him when Canales mentioned Rico stats. That already made me think even the locker room wouldn't care if Rico got the touches rn. This is on Canales indeed and I agree n the Qb take.  We aren't winning  bc of Bryce  but he has been managing it. Had the Jets had Qb aptitude,  we could've probably  lost that game too. All they would've needed is 14 points. Regardless, we got a team  that's being built up and that position needs an overhaul.

      I think he was trying to mimic the Lions with Montgomery and Gibbs. They are just more of the exception to the rule and Brooks was too much of a gamble to be a Gibbs type player. The Lions also didn’t sign Montgomery and draft Gibbs until their offense was nearly set. It was more of a luxury take the offense to the next level type of deal.
