What are the players thinking?

The players are being careful, as they should.

Ahhhh... so idiot players writing and tweeting "The owners are lying!", "The owners are trying to cheat!", "Don't believe anything the owners say!" are just being CAREFUL.

Well... I'll be damned.

Brighter news... Vincent Jackson has backpedaled and now doesn't want the 10 mil... One less hurdle I guess... I don't expect anything b4 Wednesday... If it happens b4 that...

*Bonus*

I think the recertification is what's going to hold this up...I heard a player last night on the radio say that he isn't sure everyone even wants to be a union. I think they want to try and proove that decertifying wasn't just a tactic and that it was a legitimate process.

You were the one bitching about your work hours.

Have you ever been exposed to real corporate contracts? Hundred page contracts? They are effectively written in another language.

This is due dilligence. I'd take as long as I fuging felt like.

I guess I haven't...I guess this document is so difficult to read and understand that it should take days to fully understand what is in it and read all the fine print. Your absolutely right... The players are right, they should sit at home and watch tv and stay by the phone in case their lawyers find something they don't like. Of course the players are just doing their due diligence when they say they were lied to and bamboozled by a proposal that their representatives helped negotiate. Of course the players need time to think about this contract bc it's going to be 10 years before they can get more money and less practice. You couldn't be more correct in saying that they should take as much time as they want also while saying they want to get back to work and they want to get back to football. I don't know why anybody thinks the players have an agenda...I mean they decertified their union so they could sue their employers bc they locked them out now the owners want to open up the doors and these same players say no...we're good.

I surrender to your wisdom and expertise on this subject.

They will have to re-certify at some point because if not the NFL can face class action at any point. There will never be a deal without it.

jesus, stop whining.

I was just trying to explain what's probably going on. Sorry it doesn't correspond to the contract that you signed to get into the army and therefor refuse to understand that there might actually be a legitimate reason why several hundred people would need more than a couple of days to review a document that is probably hundreds of pages long. Be as bitchy and indignant as you want, you'll still be watching when the season starts.

I am pretty convinced that this was pre-ordained which is why they balked on actually voting on Wednesday. They knew the owners would vote Thursday and they could try to use it as a way to try to gain back some leverage.

They purposely wanted the owners to vote first.

The players aren't losing nor making any money by not signing until next week. What they are doing is making sure they like the language, and posturing.

The owners have them by the balls, the players are just trying to save a little bit of face by not slobbing the knob of the cba right out of the gate.

    • You may be interested to know that the average depth of separation is dependent upon the type of route run. Though go-routes are the most type of route run, they also produce the least amount of separation (and, of course, completions).   "The average pass catcher runs a go route on nearly a quarter of all routes (22.3%), the highest percentage of any route type in our data. However, those routes are targeted roughly 1 out of 10 times (10.8 percent), the lowest target rate of any route. The WR screen is the least-run route (3.4%), and it's the only route where the average target is behind the line of scrimmage. But it's also targeted at the highest rate (40.7%) and early in the play (1.6 seconds average time to throw). The most targeted routes outside of the WR Screen? The out (27.8%) and slant (25.2%) routes are the next most popular across the league."     "The most valuable routes by expected points added per target were the post (+0.48) and corner (+0.43) routes. The go route (+0.19) ranked seventh on the list of 10 route types. The go route (+0.19) ranked seventh on the list of 10 route types. One possible reason for this: It's harder to separate on go routes, which put the player on a straight path, than on posts or corners, which ask the player to make a cut. Targeted pass catchers on posts and corners average 2.4 yards and 2.3 yards of separation from the nearest defender, respectively, while pass catchers targeted on go routes average just 1.8 yards of separation."   https://www.nfl.com/news/next-gen-stats-intro-to-new-route-recognition-model#:~:text=Targeted pass catchers on posts,) and slant (+0.26).   I would expect that Thielen would have an easier time catching the ball based that he runs the routes where it's easier to get open. Tet? Yet to be seen, but we may be better served getting him on some slants and crossers also.  In general, receivers are going to average a lower completion percentage and yards of separation on certain types of routes than others, that's why we shouldn't necessarily be taking stats, even advanced ones, at face value, as there are dynamics that most aren't even thinking about.  In terms of Tet, he's bigger and somewhat slower than a smaller dude, so you'd expect him not to have as much separation on go-routes, but his catch radius is massive and his hands are awesome. Hitting him in stride will probably be killer, but of course QBs are less accurate on go-routes according to the stats. Depending upon Tet's route versatility and how he is used, we could have a unicorn though. He's relatively fast, has great hands and gets YAC (and on an off note, if X can hold on to the ball, he's dangerous as well because he already has shown some separation ability).
