Panthers interested in Bulger and Delhomme...

Recommended Posts

I'm not bashing him. Did you watch last season? Every reason you listed besides the coaching is irrelevant. Gettis produced (with his breakout game coming with Matt at QB). LaFell came on late. Smitty produced when Matt Moore played. RB never really suffered, besides bad coaching/playcalling. And we've already had an epic thread this offseason from an accredited site showing stats the proved our OL, despite injuries, was not the cause of Jimmy's failures.

So we're down to coaching.

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you trip over your own feet repeatedly out of center.

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you fumble the snap from under center.

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you lead the league in passes thrown being deflected.

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you repeatedly get sacked because you can't read a defense.

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you checkdown or throw the ball out of bounds instead of throwing to an open guy downfield.

Sure, the lack of coaching wasn't a help, but these are things that a QB controls himself, out on the field. It's not hate, it's facts. If you've read my posts in the past, ever since we drafted him... You'd know it wasn't hate. It just comes off as extremely negative since he stepped in last year because everything that happened was negative.

The truth is, he showed nothing last year. Go find any analyst you want and google reviews on Jimmy Clausen's rookie season... Ask Charles Johnson what he thought about Jimmy. Ask Steve Smith. Ask several of the other players on Twitter. Not many have had positive things to say. None of them are good.

Best-case scenario is, we chalk all of last year up to him NOT having anyone engaged with him to correct these mistakes/misreads, so we're saying this should essentially be his true rookie season. That's fine. But, the facts are, he didn't look anywhere near ready at all when he did play. So unless that changes, how am I wrong in saying we don't know whether he's an NFL QB or not?

And btw, I heard different accounts from people there saying Cam looked better, and some saying Clausen looked slightly better (mostly because of how he finished). So, that is just your opinion. For our sake, I hope he has worked and pulled himself together to become an asset to us in some way.

But, Fox isn't here anymore, so you get the job for sentimental reasons or because Fox thought you were a "football player." The franchise is going in a new direction and from the crowd reactions yesterday, and things Rivera has already said, it's gonna be hard for them to keep Cam on the bench for the duration of the season. They won't.

Dude every single post you make you have some stupid snid remark to make about Jimmy.

And I don't know what "reports" you hear from anyone but if they say Cam looked better than Jimmy they are just lying. Both sucked, Cam sucked more...there is not debating that!

If you don't think there are several reason for any and all players, even our vets such as Gross to look terrible last year I don't know what to tell you.

Pull off the hate glasses is all I'm asking.

Edit:

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you trip over your own feet repeatedly out of center.
you are right, he did it yesterday, guess who else did? Both QBs fumbled a snap and feel to the ground like a baby

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you fumble the snap from under center.

read above

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you lead the league in passes thrown being deflected.
No but a hurt and underperforming oline does...ever heard of passing lanes? How do you think Drew Brees does it?

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you repeatedly get sacked because you can't read a defense.
Can't read a D or the hurt and underperfoming Oline can't keep people off of you? I remember Moore being able to read a D the year before last then last year looking like a Deer in the headlights, why is this?

Lame duck coaching doesn't make you checkdown or throw the ball out of bounds instead of throwing to an open guy downfield.
This is all that happened yesterday too...from both players

You give tired excuses for hating something you shouldn't be hating on

Right now the collective fanbase is blind to any of Cam's inadequacies, assuming there are any. If he throws a bad pass, like he did yesterday, everyone chalks it up to nerves, or maybe miscommunication. But that same pass thrown by Clausen is "OMG LOLZ CLAUSEN IS TEH WORSTZ."

I realize it's nearly impossible to keep from being biased, but sometimes, it's good to actually make some concerted effort to being objective.

It's hard to make that concerted effort of not being biased when you had a year's worth of evidence.

If Cam had been in Jimmy's shoes, everyone wouldn't be saying it's nerves. It's very likely it IS nerves for a rookie. And if we're being honest, Jimmy didn't seem to be the most confident player last year, so it's very possible that he was having some nerves yesterday too as he's dealing with the weight of his play last year as well as a whole fan base essentially giving up on him and wanting to see the other guy be successful, win, etc.

But, again, what person who didn't watch last season doesn't have memories stream back through their mind of last season when Jimmy checksdown, throws it away, fumbles, or misses a pass in practice from here on out... UNTIL he shows it was an aberration.

I'd pull off the "hate glasses" if there were any on. Pull off the "I HEART Jimmy shirt."

Great job responding to all the relevant points I made proving why your post was rooted in emotion rather than fact.

And the "reports" of Cam/Jimmy yesterday most likely came from the same place you saw - fans who attended. So, again, what you came away with is your opinion depending on who you talk to. If you went yourself and saw it, then it would still be your opinion, not fact.

Keep embarrassing yourself... I even made a thread last year talking about how awesome it would be if Jimmy succeeded before the start of the season - nothing but pure optimism buddy. Go see if you can find some snide remarks in there. Further proof, that my argument is based in fact - from what we saw, stats, and understanding of the game of football.

EDIT: Just saw your edits for each point... You again are ignoring the thread from earlier in the offseason that showed statistically our OL was actually REALLY good, and not the reason for Jimmy struggling. That negates just about every counterpoint you made besides the stuff from practice yesterday.

As far as that goes, I checked twitter all throughout and read all of our guys recaps on here, and none of them talked about Cam fumbling or checking down (I didn't know they were at the point of utilizing checkdown in the first practice anyway)... But the sequence where Jimmy fumbled the snap, tripped, etc. was reported several different places, most likely b/c of the crowds reactions and similarities to last year. So, I was working with the information I had.

But still, Cam is a rookie... Jimmy, experience wise, is a sophomore, so the fan base isn't giving him nearly as much leeway.

The problem with Jimmy was that his fundamentals were off. You know, some things are actually in YOUR hands, not the coaches, wide receivers, o-line, etc..

Jimmy does take part of the blame here. He saw the situation he was in and decided to ride it out. That is a character issue. Maybe he didn't practice that much harder. Maybe he didn't study a little more. Little things here and there that add up, and turn into a 2-14 season.

Yes, there were injuries, blah blah. The QB has to take control of the situation, be the leader, bring guys together and get things done. I don't think Jimmy has that. Jake had it. And Cam is showing more and more every day.

I hope Jimmy has worked on his game and steps it up this season. But as far as the vet QB, he should NOT start, under and circumstances barring injury or complete incompetence by Cam and Jimmy. It hinders development and experience. Until Cam or Jimmy loses their jobs by starting, I don't want to see the vet start.

He saw the situation he was in and decided to ride it out? What else was he supposed to do, say hey coach this situation sucks so I refuse to play?

Just so you are now informed, that is all either of them completed once they put a D in front of them. Both made really nice throws when it was them, a WR and a CB covering...such as the Armanti throw...after that it was all to hell.

Even with Cams big hands he fumbled a snap and fell straight to the ground, without covering the ball.

I'm not pulling for or against either of them but god! The hate towards Jimmy and the love affair with Cam that is completely unwarranted at this time is sickening.

BOTH OF THEM NEED A LOT OF WORK!

And to be honest, I haven't heard a single person with an unbiased view that has said overall Cam was better than Jimmy in yesterday’s practice...it was close but Jimmy did perform better and thus starting with the ones again today in practice. When Cam performs better he will start with the ones. Like it or not, at this point (which is very very early) Jimmy is the better player which is why we need a vet that can come in and play NOW!

Cool. I just wanted to make it clear, I don't hate Jimmy. I've said some things on here that may have sounded a bit harsh, but those were usually said out of emotion as a fan. Like I said, if you look at my posts about him since we got him, you would see the optimist to "this guy is horrible" journey they have taken.

And again, as far as the reports from people that were there, it's still hard to tell who did better. If Jimmy did, awesome. But, from what I had heard it was pretty even, but SMF said the slight edge went to Jimmy b/c he finished strong and Cam tapered off.

The thing that makes it hard to be unbiased about the whole thing though is Cam is literally a rookie, and Jimmy isn't and we've seen what he did last year. That may not be fair to judge him by, but we've seen it. Like I said, he's gonna have to make the bad plays so infrequent that we expect the good ones - which is the complete opposite of last year.

The other reason it's hard for any of our fans to not be biased is, we invested a #1 pick in Cam and he obviously has more natural talent, so the excitement and hype is redlining his way... People want to open this new Christmas present and see what all it can do... Jimmy was last year's present. It's gonna be hard for him to win the job outright with all that against him.

Both would bring certain things to the table that could benefit us.

Bulger, mechanics and such. Jake, leadership and attitude.

Would not oppose either.

Bulger has a chance to compete for a starting job here though, which is what I don't understand about the article.

Understood, I was jumping up screaming and yelling like everyone else when he made good plays as well. Then to hear fans stay silent or even boo Jimmy was disheartening to say the least.

This forum will implode if Jimmy starts this season, and at this point he is the clear starter. Again, we still have a long way to go before Sept 11 and a lot of work to be done by all players on the team. Things can and mostly likely will change but how about we give everyone of them a fair chance and not write anyone off before the first preseason game by saying things like they probably shouldn't even be playing in the NFL?

So we get rid of Kasay because we don't want to waste an extra roster spot for a KOS, but are willing to waste a roster spot on incompetent QBs that will never contribute? If we're going that route, how about one that's from a Coryell system so that he would actually be worth a damn and could help Cam.

I wouldnt say bringing in a veteran QB is wasting a roster spot?? I am guessing it would mean cutting Tony Pike. That guy has no future here anyway. Maybe having Jake on the roster can help with both Cam and Clausen's development. Now, do I want him starting probably not - but if this coaching staff thinks he still play to either give the younge guys time or worse case scenario come in if need then I am all for it.

I am all for having a veteran QB on the roster, now matter who it is - as long as the coaching staff thinks its a good fit.

lol last year after they drafted sam bradford the rams released, not signed marc bulger

Mark Sanchez's fellow QBs in 2009 consisted of NO seasoned veterans. The other top QB, Matt Stafford, had Culpepper's presence in Detroit, but still beat him out for a starting job before the season began.

Matt Ryan had Chris Redman lol

Todd Bouman helped Flacco a little bit for his rookie year, but veteran receivers, a running game, and decent O-line helped exponentially more

i STILL wonder why people think "veteran" presence makes any more than a negligible difference for a rookie QB. Young QBs learn the most from in game experience and their QB coach and offensive coordinator.

if we sign one vet, let it be bulger and only for depth purposes

All I am saying is that he didn't try to make an obvious bad situation better. And if he did honestly try his best, it just wasn't good enough.

And, like others have posted, the coaching situation does not affect some areas of his play. But, he was a rookie, so he had an excuse for his poor play.

If Jimmy can get it done, great. But he didn't show any signs of being a leader last season, so he has a lot of things to work on. Plus, Cam has shown the ability to be a leader, and Jimmy is just sitting back being quite.
