According to PFT, the Panthers are over the cap (by a little)

Kalil didn't seem worried about the team saying that extending him was something they would do but was a little bit of a lower priority, but isn't he tagged for around $10MM or something right now? Surely a new deal would lessen that hit substantially right?

From what I understand, I believe we are so close because of the 30 millon dollar signing bonus to CJ. So, after this season, his cap hit will be much, much lower.

But, I could be wrong.

Btw, I made this thread 1st. ;)

LOL huh? signing bonuses are spread out throughout the whole contract.

no, I have seen it from other sources too. I find it hard o believe that they have all the particulars of the entire roster right now though. Plus without even having the first round of cuts, what does it matter. They frustrate me sometimes over there.

well, I figure all the cap numbers are available.. may be a rough estimate, but I doubt it's that far off..

Just FYI..

I'd mention that there's a 3Mil credit on the 120M that can be extended to a single player for 2011 & 2012 we receive 3x 1Mil credits. We can apply both of those extensions in this year putting the cap up to 126M if you apply them forward.

Besides, PFT is only 60% correct half the time..

I'd figure Marty knows more about our cap situation than anyone in PFT

Oh, I was under the impression that signing bonuses were given right when you sign the dotted line.

No, a signing bonus is additional guaranteed money that is spread out through the life of the contract. Im not sure if its spread evenly but it sure isnt paid all at one time or it would defeat the purpose.

I'm pretty sure a signing bonus is paid in full at the time of the deal. It's cap hit though is spread across the contract. That's why when we cut a player their cap hit increases...

    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
