So lets say Goodson fumbles a couple times tomorrow night...

Interesting tidbit on mikegoods fumbling habits: I spoke with one of his former college coaches, who only worked with him for one year, about his fumbling prob. The guy thought very highly of MG but when I brought up fumbling as an issue hi reaction was kinda funny. He pretty much said that they had tried everything with the kid, even duct taping a bunch of football's to him.

I hope for Goodson's sake he can fix the problem, but keep in mind this won't be the first staff to highlight it as a problem and try different things to correct it. I don't think this staff will give him much time. IMO there needs to be a significant amount of touches between fumbles if he hopes to be a contributor.

goodson needs to play the kevin faulk role. 3rd down receiving RB. limited carries, but targeted often in the passing game.

Kevin Faulk is clutch as hell though, and has never had a fumbling problem. Goodson has been the opposite. If these fumbles keep up throughout the preseason, I'd cut my losses and get rid of him. The coaching staff will keep him around for now though because hes young, and comes with a modest cap hit.

I am not sure about judgments from the next preseason game but I will tell you this, if he fumbles throughout this season he needs to sit. Because of his talent he should be tested again after that and then a final decision should be made. New contract should not even be in the conversation.

To note, Peterson never really got over his fumbling problem. Now, he just doesn't fumble as much. So you say well how is it he is still playing and no one talks about it, Peterson is super star talent and he makes up for it in a game. Goodson is not at that point and really, and probably won't be, it's a hard level to reach and not many can make up for it.

what plays/games makes you think he isn't clutch?

I don't really think it's a relevant question just yet, because when has he needed to be clutch? however, the dude did get to make his case as a legitimate RB in the NFL and put up over 100 yards on both starts.. the 1st to do it out of all our RB's last year..

now the fumbles.. yeah, that's going to be an issue.. I'll wait to see how this season plays out..

tiki coldn't hold onto the rock either but adjusted his grip and fixed his problems and became one of the best backs in the league right before he retired.

goodson is too good to let go. better coaching than the received last year should fix his problems this year. i blame it on the offseason situation that it hasn't been fixed yet. it just showed up in preseason 1, it will be fixed by preseason 4.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
