Would you be upset if we traded J-Stew?

My dream scenario would be something like this.

We trade Jonathan Stewart and Jimmy Clausen to the Bengals. In return they give us Leon Hall and their 1st round pick next year. The Bengals proceed to have the worst record in the league, and we have the first overall pick. We then proceed to trade that pick back to the Bengals for a treasure trove of picks (greater than the Ricky Williams trade), and we select Alshon Jeffery, get another RB, get a DT, OL, and every other need locked up. Talk about sweet dreams!

If we could get an elite WR or DT for him, we should consider it.

He may want to stay as a #2 if he's injury prone, will be easier on his body.

Fox plan with them was to use Dwill early in season when teams were fresh, then last half of season use Stew to run over and downhill on banged up defenses. Worked good years we kept it together. The season they both got 1k yards, most of Dwill's were first half season and Stewart last half

don't underestimate the stupid teams out there

It still would be highly dumb, to keep an aging RB, and trade J-stew. Goodson and Sutton maybe good but they aren't on J-stew's level. And I don't know what J-stew would do without d-will, or what would d-will do without stew.

We need a legitimate cornerback badly. Those of you out there that think Chris Gamble is going to come back and be a top CB are dreaming. It's pitiful to think that our best CB would probably be near the bottom of the 2-deep for some teams.

I understand Hurney wants to run the ball with Williams and Stewart but until our OL shows up it doesn't matter who we have back there. It could be Williams, Stewart, Goodson, or Sutton and its not going to make a difference...they aren't going anywhere.

Williams is signed long-term and unless we are stupid we aren't resigning Jonathan Stewart. So we can either do what the Chargers did with LT and Michael Turner (which was essentially screw the pooch) or we can actually get a position of need in a trade and hedge our bets with Sutton (who is very underrated IMO) and Goodson (showed what he could do last year).

If you split Stewart's carries between Goodson and Sutton then you are probably not going to see a big difference at the end of the year when it comes to statistics. We aren't a playoff team in this division with the secondary that we have right now. No matter the quality of RBs we have.

Yes, for the right compensation. Stewart is a beast, but he's injured, all the time. He's never made it to the first regular season game without an injury in his life. But, we won't get what he's worth, because RB's get hurt, all the time. However, since we have a stable of capable backs, we should keep them as long as we can. It's no wonder if we had to sign DWill, and our team is looking smart even though people thought we overpaid. We could be going into the season with Sutton and Goodson right now. Maybe only Sutton/Vaughn. Goodson probably wouldn't make the flight on the account of dropping his plane ticket over and over at the airport and missing the flight.

    • That makes me wonder, how many starting tackles in the NFL and/or elite tackles have short arms? I feel like there’s probably lots of tackles that end up being drafted in later rounds because they had short arms or didn’t have the physical tools.     also why not draft a tackle in the later rounds that we could move to guard or center if they fail, instead of drafting a center? If we draft a center we know they aren’t going to play tackle but if you draft a tackle they could end up playing any of the 3 positions, look at BC for example. It feels like it’s a better decision to draft a tackle in later rounds than a center.
    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
