I don't mean wrong call in the short term. I am just saying right now he may be a little Clausen so if you are going by where they are at this exact moment it probably should have been Clausen. But it was pretty close and Cam is the future

What is the benchmark to prove Cam hasn't proven himself in the eyes of the coaches?

being named the starter for the regular season today like Riversa said he would...?

unless you're going to argue that Jimmy has been so impressive he's made the call tough for Rivera.

Probably the right call in the long run but maybe the wrong call in the short turn. But I think Cam should be the guy unless he completely poo's the bed on Thursday

yup... that's what it'll be. I think we could have gone a few more weeks with Clausen but it was only a matter of time.

In week 4, teams play almost exclusively scrubs, so I don't know that we will learn much against the Steelers.

It's possible with the abbreviated camps etc this year starters may play a little more Game 4 of the PS. With that being said if Cam has a good 1st quarter Game 4 it wouldn't surprise me if Rivera pulls him out on a positive note. :p

Yup.

To be devils advocate, maybe they know what they are going to get with Clausen and this is Cam's last shot to secure the starting role.

I think you are basically right, but I don't think he has to be exceptional by any stretch to win the role. Basically they feel confident they know what they get with Clausen from preseason games and practice but Cam is a bit inconsistent so they would like to get him more time with a gameplan around him to see how he does

being named the starter today like Riversa said he would all along...?

The offense in general was ineffective against in Miami, and that made it difficult to evaluate the rookie QB. The point of naming a week 1 starter this week was for the preparation for Thursday's "dress" rehearsal, and they will still get to have that mock period in which they can prepare for thursday as if it were a regular season game.

    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
    • These refs are horrible.  They definitely got money on this game lol.
    • I don’t think the concept is bad thinking. That money this year is a ball buster, for getting nothing out of it.
