Jerry Richardson to Cam: No Tattoos, No Piercings

Good lord. An old guy asks a young guy to stay away from piercings and tatts. Cam's grand dad probably has told him the same thing.

How is this news again other than people who are trying hard to be offended by it?

Again, your entire premise is completely wrong. It's OK if you don't want to admit your mistake.

We understand.

:cam:

No my premise is that Polamalu is not that well known outside of football circles, is known because of his hair outside of football, is not that marketable for other reasons or products. The whole premise of the thread is that tattoos, piercings don't make you marketable and actually hurt your chances of appealing to the mass media. Then it got morphed into long hair and other issues like usual.

Still the premise has been that most sports figures that transcend the game and become well known to people outside of sports typically are marketable because they appeal to a wide variety of people are not objectionable in attitude, appearance or behavior.

Polamalu has not transcended sports, is not marketable outside of football, and is not that well known to folks in the US and the world who don't follow American football which is not a majority of those folks out there. What is he known for? Wild hair, little else to the common man.

Despite your feeble attempts to prove otherwise, you have nothing to dispute any of those premises.

We understand you don't want to admit you got nothing or give up trying to be right.

Listening to Mike & Mike right now, & it's funny how most of the incoming mail/tweets is

'Would he have said the same thing if Cam was WHITE!?!?!?'

'Did he say that to CLAUSEN!?!?!!?'

Goes to show how stupid folks are then. He didn't even talk to Clausen before we drafted him but surely could have talked to him afterwards. As for being white or black I fully expect if he were looking to draft Gabbert he would have had the same discussion and possibly made an issue of his hair. Richardson would have had the same issues with young people whether they are white, black, green or polka dotted.

probably cause it was a draft day decision. No one thought jimmy would fall like that.

Exactly. We had months to do all our homework on Newton and one day on Clausen. Plus Clausen was a low second round pick so who thinks that he is going to be the face of your franchise or needs so much scrutiny.

Would have liked it if JR made the decision simpy to keep this conversation to himself. Not his best PR move.

It's a race issue. Race issue in sports = HUGE ratings for the venue.

Has nothing to do w/ race.

Has to do w/ an old owner who sometimes speak like a doofus and his manner of talking is portrayed as something different than the intended meaning.

Cam has elected to portray himself as X. All on his own.

Jerry likes X. Wants Cam to stay X. X is how Jerry wants his QB. QB is held to a different standard than any other position and that has nothing to do w/ skin color.

Comical our own fanbase is helping create a story that isn't a story.

The undertone of this story is entirely racially based.

ESPN/NBC Sports have done an excellent job of sh*t stirring and contributed to this significantly.

Yeah, they are going to spin the story.....look at how our own fanbase has overreacted in this thread and our fans of all people should be able to understand what Jerry really meant.

Sport message boards aren't completely irrelevent. It gives outlets an idea of what can be pushed when fanbases are going loco on issues.

    • Seems to me that the Bucs have less fight in them now than they had in week 16. The real test is going to be if the Panthers can sustain focus and discipline throughout. With the Bucs being at home, maybe that gives them a little boost of confidence and energy.  Wouldn’t it be something if for ONCE the Panthers came out and dominated from the opening snap and just took this shook Bucs team to task?  If the Panthers see-saw form follows, we are in line for the W. Hard to say we have momentum but we do have a pretty clear pattern of following a loss with a win.  I’m going to say 24-16 Panthers!!
    • When Parcell’s said Bryce better “walk on water”…..the implied concern wasn’t that the tiny QB could survive being hit.  It was acknowledging he would have to be extremely special to overcome the handicaps he would face at this level.  Which he isn’t and can’t.  which isn’t just being hit.  It’s being able to play in an NFL pocket and make NFL throws from it….and that ultimately is Bryce’s problem.  He doesn’t play well from a NFL pocket and can’t make all the throws as needed.  He can’t see as others can.  Which impacts the throws he does and doesn’t take.  It also impacts him bailing and killing plays and turning them into scrambles/dead plays
    • 9:30 kick off here in Scotland, which is better than the 01:20 early hours of Monday that I feared. Will definitely be watching, but probably wouldn't if it had been 0120 as I need to be up for work at 05:45. Falcons Saints is 6pm on the Sunday so will watch that too if it becomes relevant
