And the Cam Newton part, for those who dont care about anything else..

Sometimes I impress even myself... I managed to wait until all the way after the jump to type 'Cam Newton', so here's my time to shine! Sorry if it offends, but I'm not pulling any punches- if in the last 12 hrs you are a Carolina Panthers fan (or heck, even just a football fan) and mentioned the terms 'bust' or 'Andrew Luck' regarding Cam Newton then you have absolutely no understanding of football, you just don't... the knowledge level isn't there and you need to spend more time analyzing and less time typing. Harsh? Sure... but it's true.

As crazy as it sounds last night was the best we've seen Cam Newton, and before you 'rabble, rabble' over it and point out stats let me tell you what I saw last night that I didn't see in games one or two:

* Cam was actively trying to plant his feet and drive the passes through, rather than rocking back. Were there times he faltered and regressed to bad habits? Sure... but keep in mind he's likely never had a OL pushed back into him physically when he's trying to throw.; such is the life of a spread offense QB. It wasn't until he had a body bumping into him that he threw off his back foot, which is an improvement over the 1st and 2nd game when he threw back-footed when he didn't need to.

* Newton went through his full progressions last night (sans the checkdowns). Previously I've seen him go through two reads at the most before throwing too early, last night he truly went through every single read before choosing to throw or run. This was a major leap forward.

* He started reacting to real pressure, rather than perceived pressure. In weeks one and two he had a tendency to throw too quickly rather than let routes develop because he felt a pass rush that weren't close enough to warrant a change in reads. Last night Cam held onto the ball and extended plays as much as he possibly could before making the decision to throw or run. It's this skill that separates the Ben Roethlisberger's from the Jimmy Clausen's- having the confidence to stand in the pocket and throw the ball knowing you'll take a hit. Instead of rolling out and looking for an outlet, or throwing it away, he stood tall and delivered passes downfield.

* Knowing when to run was another area that stood out. Cam is not a running QB, he's a QB who can run and to me that delineation is extremely promising. He took off only when he had to, and looked more to try and find a receiver than run the football.

an inferior site has some well thought out fan threads, as opposed to half the poo on the huddle. What an inferior site lacks that the huddle does have, is boobs and dickjokes.

That being said, I must agree, though the game was frustrating to watch and Cam looked average, I was happy with his progression as well. Preseason isn't about stats, especially for being a rookie under a rookie coach with a new OC trying to install a new gameplan for our offense in a shortened offseason due to a lockout etc.

Those expecting Cam to come out like Manning, go kill yourselves. Your contributions aren't needed.

Those expecting Cam to struggle, but looking for "flashes", you are the real fans. Flashes such as the almost TD pass to Smitty and the rope to Clowney that called back (from our own goal line for that matter). Flashes like the perfect deep ball to Olsen or the rollout to Shockey. Those were nice. The 3rd down conversion to Naanee, that was sweet as well. That TD was electric! The other long scamper was exciting. Those are called flashes. Flashes are what Jimmy failed to show last season.

Agreed!!! I am not concerned much about the QB spot as the freaking HORRIBLE defense. Nothing good is going to happen this season if their play of the last two weeks continues. :eek:

Im ready for them and am looking forward to Cam's progression through the season. I just don't think he is ready to start in the NFL yet.

and dont worry my next post will be a boob and a dick joke right under it.

who do you think gives us the best chance at being competitive based off the OL play you saw last night?

I still hold out hope (as pathetic as it may be) that somewhere there's the copy of the play-book we used against the Giants, full of plays that are creative and dynamic on both sides of the ball. I hope the last two games have exemplified this team playing to their weaknesses intentionally to see how bad it can be, but when the real plays are rolled out that use this team's strengths then everything will get better.

We looked eerily similar to last year on both sides of the ball as opposed to the Giants game, where it actually looked like we game planned.

      No one's saying LaMelo has no blame we're responding to you acting like he's the reason they lost. The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.

      Honestly its why that Jalen Coker grab was a big deal.  I'd been warming up to the idea of a sadiq pick and was adamantly against a receiver...but this altered my train of thought.  I mean For instance, Cade Otton signed for 3 yr 30 mil contract...thats not dramatically different than the rookie payscale for #19 (4 year 20 mil with 5th year option), however you KNOW otton is decent...no clue if Sadiq will be anything.
