Anything to convince themselves they arent racially biased. Sad thing is, he hasnt even done anything and does what the team asks and dudes already hate him and lowball his potential. They hate Cam for who he is and what he represents. That much is clear.

while i do think that may be true for some, i think most of it has to do with how the role of the QB should be played out. it's just a fundamental difference in how they envision the role of a QB. race doesn't matter. old school thinking is that the role of the QB is to sit back in the pocket and run things from there. snaps should be taken from under center...yada yada yada.

there are lots of biases against non-traditional players and systems. there always has been. cam newton is not a traditional player. he doesn't fit the prototypical mold of what many think a QB should be. The fact that there aren't that many doing what he can do and that there are very few among those who have a similar skillset who have succeeded means that people just don't know what to expect. that scares a lot of people or at the very least takes them out of their comfort zone. they don't like their paradigms disturbed or their boxes shook.

the best part of that pass is you can see that cam actually tried to take his time to step into the throw. hes realizing he throws off his backfoot when he doesnt need to. once he felt his legs get hit THEN he relied on his athletic ability to make a safe pass that the receiver has a chance to get. even when in trouble cam doesnt seem to fumble or throw picks, well see how that shakes out.

I thought that the throw to Shockey was lucky more than anything...

Then you have throws like 5:20

That was actually where Smith should have gone, Cam was trying to anticipate the cut. With Smith forcing coverage to the inside it left the pylon corner completely open. If that was peyton he would have told that reciever that exact thing but it being cam and him a rookie he did like he should have and took the blame.

I liked that play. While it looks risky in hindsight since PI wasn't called, it shows he has confidence in his arm strength and accuracy, knowing where his guy should be, and while being chased out of the pocket with a guy hanging off him keeping his eyes down field.

While many may argue that not throwing the ball away, having better pocket presence, etc are the issues, they have to realize that he is also learning and doing things he's been criticized as being unable to do(such as making reads, looking to throw first, etc).

He just has to continue to improve. (Also Otah being back helps a lot)

Cam was definitely impressive his series, a healthy offensive line does wonders for Cam and this team. I'm pretty sure Tom Brady or Manning wouldn't be as good as they are without a pro-bowl caliber offensive line.

They wouldnt. Thats the pink elephant about those guys. They need very good protection to perform at a high level. See last year's 1st round matchups with their teams for further proof.

brady is pretty well known for destroying people who blitz him with pressure, but it is true a lot of that is because his o-line is good enough to give him the precious few seconds to get the ball off... the jets seemed to rely on making him sit back there an eternity with nobody throwing to him to rattle him in the playoffs.
