When Panthers go to a nickel defense, S Jordan Pugh comes in off the bench and S Charles Godfrey will serve at the nickel back, Rivera said.

Ron Rivera said he'll go into the season with the CBs they have. He said the ones out there didn't offer anything they didn't already have.

The Panthers didn't seriously consider adding CB Joselio Hanson because "we already have that player." That's basically Captain Munnerlyn.

Ron Rivera said the Panthers received calls from other teams about Everette Brown, most of whom play a 3-4 scheme.

wtf? Why wouldn't you trade him then, even if only for a 7th round pick?

people asking about brown doesn't mean any offers were made.

anyway...i actually like godfrey as the nickel covering the slot/middle of the field. he should be a natural fit there. i have always thought he should be playing his natural position and i'm glad he'll get a chance to. when the CB corps are as weak as they are , but the safety position is strong, doing something like this makes sense when you have a safety that is good in coverage.

    • He does have speed. 21+ top end speed is very fast for a linebacker and his 3 cone drill time is considered excellent, close to elite.
    • This is awesome because you get to see the perspectives of the scouts--get a glimpse behind the curtain. I wonder whose doing this was; I am curious as to why David Tepper allowed it. Maybe it was his wife. Maybe Dan.  At least from my perspective--and probably one shared by other fans--when David Tepper bought the team, he closed everything off too much to the fans, and really didn't give an explanation. Things were obviously done because he (and/or some others wanted to do it). Remember when they used the guise of construction and all that to keep fans from seeing the team during practice? I know there are laws and safety and all that, but Tepper could've made it happen. And, of course, we all know that they essentially fired Jeremy from his independent contractor gig as a photojournalist. I never understood why they'd do that (and the negative reverberations obviously affected Jeremy and ultimately this place--i.e, us fans). The pie was (and is) certainly big enough to throw some scraps to the independents. I realize that you can't necessarily open the floodgates, but a few different perspectives from indy journalists whether in word or photos is a good thing in my mind.  So, it's great to see different perspectives. I will say this however: it is not without risk, as you know there will be some buster who will be calling the scouts out if the players flop. I think we should all keep in mind that the buck stops with the GM. It's nice to have one, however, that is so convicted in his people and process--and ultimately success, that he's willing to give fans access to this type of information. Pass this on to Tepper.
    • I hope he ends up being our best ever at the position. Ryan Kalil left big shoes behind that we haven't quite been able to fill since.
