Rivera's Remarks: Beason Back

He seems to have far more faith in our defense than we do. A couple of statement that was telling the first of which he said we are only going to dress 3 DTs Sunday and the 3 we have on the roster were the ones he was going to dress. Also when asked about blitzing and the very vanilla defense we saw in preseason his reaction was classic it was the first time I really saw him unable to maintain the serious straight forward tone. It was a good thing though it let's us know that we will be bringing the pressure. I believe that a DT will be signed next week hopefully T. Harris or G. Warren. It going to be a long season but as long as we are getting better each week we should be happy. As many as said on the huddle we aren't going to the playoffs this year but I feel this coaching staff can once again make us a relavant team making the playoffs year in and year out.

A couple of things stuck out to me:

  • Rivera is confident in where we are as a team. That doesn't mean we won't suck, but he seems very confident in the preparation and the mental attitude of the players and coaches. I didn't sense any anxiety on his part just from the way he spoke and his body language.
  • You can learn more about football listening to Rivera for 10 minutes than you could listening to Fox for a year.

We may (or may not) lose Sunday, but I think we will like what we see on the field at the end of the year.

    • Honestly I haven no idea what I would have even done last night, Edgecomb was the most realistic option to improve our team
    • He doesn't have the athleticism to play in the NBA. He had the worst numbers of anyone who worked out in this draft. He's legitimately the least athletic player in this draft, which is saying something.   His ceiling is Kyle Korver, with his lack of athleticism he's more likely to be out of the league in 5-6 years like Jimmer Fredette.
    • Well, he was in probably every NBA franchise's top 6 or 7. Obviously it's nice to take the swing and it work out. But when a guy refuses to work out for your team, is probably the guy refusing to play with LaMelo, has sketchy handlers, etc.? You want...to take that swing? A desperate team does, sure. Which the Hornets are. But a smart team doesn't. Which is what they will hopefully become.  Kon isn't a superstar, but his floor is Kyle Korver. Is that what you want in the 4th pick? Not really, but he's your 4th guy on a good team and what I think Charles Lee wants in a player.  Trade down would've been nice, but for who? Tre Johnson would've been my guy, but he's gone if we trade with Brooklyn. If Washington wanted Ace, I doubt it would've taken much to come get him. Trade down and get Maluach (knowing you're trading Mark) would make sense and may have been the play, but I think Kon helps the team on the court and changing a culture. Not so sure about some of the guys in the 8-12 range.
