Interesting Quote from DeAngelo Williams

Mr. Scot

I like that DeAngelo is able to articulate the difference between Fox and Rivera and puts Rivera's approach in a positive light. However, I am still waiting to see when this new approach is going to translate into wins on the football field.

We are still far from good.

somebody posted that they didn't understand why people don't like fox and i showed them the other side of the coin. now in response to it you're bringing up life and happiness like it's somehow relevant to a football-related discussion about what people think about a former coach and, here's where it gets really interesting, I find that kind of silly.

the seifert thing i brought up because for years up until recently people kept bringing up the seifert years and how awful they were and how much of a worthless piece of poo seifert was, and the fact that nobody really defended him. Even today somebody uses him as the occasional punchline, but it doesn't turn into a three page back and forth volley of banter. There were people in like 07 ripping seifert who had been fired for years and you probably weren't putting a positive spin on his tenure and accusing people of harboring resentment because while you have a lot of care for fox, you don't hold georgy up to that regard. And here you are in another fox thread trying to prop him up yet again.

believe it or not a good number of people are not awestruck by fox's early success to the point of it overshadowing the rest of his body of work, which has multiple limiting flaws, and chose to acknowledge them rather than put on the rose colored sunglasses, not because they harbor resentment but because they don't have that attachment to him that you do. And it seems to me the fox fans have a much harder time when people criticize him than the critics do when someone showers him with praise.

I just think you're an angry guy. I'm not attached to Fox, but I'm grateful for what he did for the franchise and I still think he's a good coach. He brought some nice consistency and had flashes of great success, but he couldn't get us over the hump for whatever reason. So he's gone, and now I'm supporting Rivera. I hope he has success in Denver, but I'm neither predicting it nor am I really following it.

See, I actually didn't come here to really defend him, but to comment on just how deep your resentments go. And I'm sorry I did, because I think I really touched a nerve--I had no idea how sensitive you are and I'm sorry for that. It's obvious you have a lot of passion for the Panthers, but some of it is on the negative side and pointed at the last regime. It is my sincere hope that you can just let it go and use that room to enjoy what we have now even more. :)

Fox MADE DeAngelo here. If it weren't for his run first philosophy, the 1100 yd season would've never happened. And can we chill on Rivera Is God until he wins a game? Kthnx.

No poo. I for one wonder how long this honeymoon will last. If Cam threw 3 interceptions today would you boo?

Fox had a formula that was successful in the early 2000s, but he repeatedly showed that he could not really adapt between seasons, or hell, between or even in games. As the game changed, Fox didn't.

I appreciate how Fox turned us around, but he was slipping as a coach. When JR tried to force Fox to be a different man (or coach, I guess), it was clear Fox checked out despite cashing his checks. JR bears some responsibility here because he knew it was happening but for a variety of reasons he didn't take action. Ultimately, Fox is what he is... and that is a coach in Denver. So while I may make fun of him on occasion, I don't hold him any true ill will... but I also am not going to sugar coat the disaster that was the end of his time as a coach here.

Didn't a former player say that Fox would take over the defensive team meetings? Can't remember if it was during trgo, Meeks or both but thought that was interesting especially when we had those top ranked d's

it was while Meeks was DC, and it was someone who said Meeks wasn't a good enough communicator so that was why our defense was slipping or something I think.

I can't find the meeks story so it's possible I'm mixing stuff up, but I thought it was in relation to Meeks not being a good communicator, so Fox had to 'help out' in meetings. It was one of the reasons so many of us weren't high on Meeks as a HC candidate anywhere I think.
