Cam Newton and Ron Rivera Transcripts

We're like that little brother in the neighborhood that everyone picks on and beats up but eventually that little brother gets bigger. Then when you get bigger you start beating everyone else up. We're going to grow and develop and we're going to take our lumps, but eventually we're going to learn how to fight back and when that happens I really think we can take off and have some real good things happen for us."

Impressive interview

If Cam Newton handles the Saint's defense as well as he handles the press corps, the Saint's may be in a world of trouble. This game has me worried. Carolina has traditionally played us some very tough games, and I expect this game to be no different. After the two quick touchdowns against Jacksonville, the offense seemed to lack a sense of urgency the rest of the game. The Saint's can't afford to repeat that against Carolina. I'm expecting another high scoring game.

Smart kid..

Smart kid. He says all the right things. I've been very impressed with him so far. The Saints D better be ready, this dude is for real...and damn he's big . Everyone knows that the Saints track record with rookie QB's isn't that great, and this isn't your run of the mill rookie QB.. Better not try to sleep walk their way through this one. They gave Green Bay all they wanted... I'm sorry, but I'm little worried about this game.

Bahaha the Aint's are scared

Do you recall the Saints picking him in the third round raising eyebrows around the league?

"I was in San Diego and I saw what Antonio Gates was capable of. The Houston Texans took the kid from Cincinnati that played basketball so I think to a degree there was a carry over as far as with the athleticism that you need to play certain positions. Certainly we've seen that at tight end as a position you can have success with if you played basketball. I guess also with a pass rushing defensive end like we've seen with the young man with the Houston Texans."

a.k.a.

Reporters: Isn't Jimmy Graham the greatest TE of all time? Aren't the Saint's geniuses for drafting him in the 3rd round? Aren't they the smartest people evah?!

Rivera: Meh.

    • Does he not already do that? The go route stuff is to just make space for the constant dink and dunk. That's why it dries up near the 20 where it gets tough.  Difficult to defend? Just get up in scores and lean into it. If they can send pressure without going too soft in coverage it will work agaisnt the Panthers.  I still think the offense is a QB away from instant improvement.
    • I don't know how about 5 at this point. I think that window has closed. Getting the easy stuff early and being notoriously unprepared every year is blowing up in their faces. 3 might be the max. Good Bryce shows up when the other team is having a practice game or an off weak after watching our film. It's basically a sucker punch to teams mailing it in. Groundhog day? More like Groundhog year again
    • It's a weak take like it was a weak game. It was garbage time against backups. That's his shine time. It's should be made fun of because it was pathetic. The WRs were gassed? What about the backup DBs? Those guys must have been really tired since they sit on the bench most of the time. Take that BS and go whine to someone else. man or zone they played off the line and back 10 yards in soft ass coverage. That and practice is all Young is good at. When the other team plays like they want to win he shuts down. Same as last year. Blah blah blah
